The mermaid idea...ehh...it's a stretch but they could work it in kind of like those "mystery" Daniel Boone quests they had in AC3. Where he'd claim to see Bigfoot or a UFO only for you to discover it was something reasonably explained.
Except for the headless horseman! That one was the only real one if I remember orrectly

I like your Kraken idea!! Maybe not a real huge supernatural Kraken like PotC but perhaps coming across a Giant Squid (maybe even washed up dead on a beach) would be cool!

Okay...maybe not a mermaid :lol But yeah on the Kraken/squid. It would be a pretty cool set piece mission if your ship got attacked by a giant squid.

Those mystery quests were neat. I liked those missions, it was a cool way to explain how some of those myths and legends were passed down through the years.

If the PS4 was freaking backwards compatible, I would be all over it. I'm not dumping my entire library to get a new machine. Frustrating as F.

I would think that it should be backward compatible. The PS4 will still use Blu Ray disks, so that's a good indicator that you should still be able to pop in a PS3 game and be able to play it (at least I hope). Can't wait until E3 this year when the system is officially revealed.

From what they announced... there's no backwards compatibility at this point. Stupid because a lot of those games are great.

Well that's just lame. I'm using an 80 GB PS3 from 2007, and I would love to upgrade to a PS4 that was backward compatible with PS3 games. Sony is going to shoot themselves in the foot if they expect for people to abandon their old (and new) PS3 games for a next gen console that's unable to play them.

Meh, backwards compatibility isn't that big of an issue... people who own PS3 games own a PS3 console.

It's more realistic to expect PS1/PS2 emulation from the PS4, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

Well, they own a PS3 NOW, because the PS4 isn't out yet. Alot of people use to trade in their old system for the new. Can't really do that anymore. Anyways, I believe emulation was already confirmed for PS4.

Emulation to what extent? Any game or specific ones they choose?

I'd imagine any they choose. I believe I heard that somewhere after the conference thing they did.

Sony such a great job with BC with the PS2 and 3 (first gen). It's too bad they're walking away from it now. It's such an awesome, helpful feature. I still have my original 60 gig model because of the BC.

They need to have a program where you trade in your PS3 games for a code to get the title on your Playstation 4.:lecture That is, of they're going to go through with the whole "stream every Playstation title" thing. That being said, I'm fine with it, as, as far as I'm concerned, my PS3 is an extra Blu-Ray player in the house.

Yep, I guessed that's why people were whining but lets be honest, they don't matter.
The whining of the initial price of the PS4 will be a bigger factor for Sony than those people willing to part with their old systems.

By the way, I wonder what version of the game is in the trailer... if it's next gen, I kind of expected better.
Still looks really nice though.

Nope. It is a big issue, if you don't want to have your TV area cluttered with needless hardware, and if your HDTV has limited connection ports (HDMI and composite). Because my fat PS3 is backward compatible with both PS2 and PS1 games, I can choose to have my PS3 out alone and keep the other two consoles in storage.

Also, I never traded in a system before. Don't care for it.

Edit: I forgot to mention the pointlessness of having two Blu Ray players (PS3 and the PS4) connected to a single television set. Which goes back to my point of unnecessary clutter.
