Re: ATTENTION all Custom Artists!!

two questions:

when you use clay in the two part mold, do you let it harden before you put the silicone on top of it, or do you just pour the silicon onto the clay the way it is?

could i use crayola model magic (or some other ideas), as a substitute for clay in the two part mold?

Re: ATTENTION all Custom Artists!!

i'm thinking about getting the Pour On Silicone Starter Kit, would i be able to use this for two part molds?

Re: ATTENTION all Custom Artists!!

Villiansfan,
The difference between the oomoo 25 and 30 is curing time. One (I forget which) cures a little faster.
The clay doens't harden in a two part mold. Once the oomoo sets up, you remove the clay and pour the second part. (after spraying the the 1st part of the mold so it doesn't stick to the new oomoo.) Can't say for certain about model magic. Should be ok, just give it a try.
The pour on starter set is what I first started with. Can't go wrong with that.

Give it try. Play with it. I takes some practice to get right. But if I can do it, ANYONE can. Trust me. Just try it!

No you dont let it harden. You must use a non drying sulfer free type of clay. The sulfer free type will work for silicone, sulfer clays dont allow the silicone to set up correctly.

I'm not familiar with the crayola model magic so I cant say that it wont work.

would it be possible for you to show some pictures of the silicone process?
(putting in clay, getting rid of the clay, making the two parts)

Just check this out, it will show you every thing about molding a 2 part mold, and how to cast it. Good luck.
Some of you may have seen this before, but I have a detailed molding and casting tutorial on my website. Molding and casting tutorial

Re: ATTENTION all Custom Artists!!

if you use clay in a two part mold, could you do what you do, then let it harden, and pour plastic into the silicone, and then just put the clay part back into it?

Re: ATTENTION all Custom Artists!!

Hey guys, how tough is it to do a black wash? I'm actually wanting to do a rust wash if that makes since. Just not sure where to start.

Re: ATTENTION all Custom Artists!!

Hi... A couple of questions about painting the new Sideshow heads, just wondering what paint you use for a base coat as I've got Indy coming, also wouldn't mind making a neck for it (looks much better that way). I've read that you boil harden Supersculpy so I was wondering do I first glue the head on the neck sculpt then boil?

The type of paint I've been using is the Testors Acryl to paint heads. If you go back a page or two Dark Artist goes over the color combos he uses for his head repaints.

As for adding a neck, I dont know how well the harden sculpy will stick to the soft head.

I would use something like Alves epoxie or Magic sculpt. You can easily sculpt a neck to the head and blend it in real seamlessly. When it dries you the can drill out the bottom to fit the ball joint.

Thennnn, you can recast it and make it available to all your freak fourm :bananafriends!

Re: ATTENTION all Custom Artists!!

For all the custom Painters out there. I'm having trouble getting the right color for lips.

Mine always tend to be too pink looking. I've been mixing the flesh tone with a little bit of red. Still looks off to me.

Would anyone be willing to share there recipe for realistic lip color?

Re: ATTENTION all Custom Artists!!

I use chalk pastels to shade my lips. I mix brown with a little red to get the shade I want and then brush it on. It works for me. But if you want to use paint, I would suggest throwing a little smidge of brown into your mix. If you look at your lips in the mirror you will see that they are a little browner than your skin tone.

Thanks, I will try that.

What is the best way to paint eyes on a figure, in my case on the version 2 joker with slicked back hair? I am making a custom joker right now, but i'm not sure/afraid to do the eyes. I was just wondering if someone could tell me how to paint them well. Thanks.
