I mean I'll still see it in 3D for the experience (and it'll be cool to see if Hot Toys makes a Neytiri, especially with the quality they're capable of in the current year), but this isn't going to be a cultural touchstone. Avatar is a theme park ride more than anything else. Credit where it's due though, it's got more heart than Jurassic World or the MCU at this point.

Gotta love the hyperbole... was was it? "The Movie Event of a Generation"?
I'm not sure if I want to pay to see this in the theatres. Just doesn't even begin to interest me. As everyone's been pointing out, it just seems to be the same story, only wet. I wish we could still get sequels that actually brought something new to the story, instead of just being the same story with some new flashy things... you know, stuff like Empire Strikes Back, Road Warrior, The Godfather Part II, hell, even Top Gun Maverick brings something new to the story!

Yes, it was the first Top Gun installment to copy and paste the Rebels attack the Death Star plot from Star Wars. I guess that could be considered "new".

Because in this one Cameron tacked on a scene where Jake's avatar (looking eerily like Joaquin Phoenix) uses a baseball bat to break glasses filled with water in order to kill all of the bad guys....

A big CGI cartoon. How can this become anywhere near the box office of the original? People has seen stuff like this so much in the last ten years...but if he pulls it off I wouldn't be surprised. 2nd/3rd week box office will show alot.
