omg you really need to get your eyes tested :lol:lol:lol

Man, how can anyone compare the wonky zombie vampires from Legend to the characters in Avatar? Clearly, some people can't differentiate from average CGI to great CGI.

Darren has an eye for details though, so I am not surprised he notices the quality in Avatar.

I think the argument about "better" CGI comes from the realistic VS the not realistic. Some believe the CGI in something like District 9 is "better" because it's MUCH more realistic. AVATAR looks fake... and maybe that's the way it's SUPPOSED to look, but who's to say which is "better", from an AUDIENCE viewpoint (not someone in the industry).

Ultimately, the audience will make it's choice.

So the technological argument is really a moot point.

Personally, I think Cameron oversold this movie. Maybe it was "revolutionary" 14 years ago when he dreamed it up, but I think general audiences are going to look at this trailer and be "meh" about it. It looks a lot like a lot of other things out there now. In fact, I was most reminded of the teaser for 10,000 BC when watching this, for some reason - I think it's all the roaring :lol

I think it looks way ahead of LOTR. I think the 3d aspect will bring the most into this.
I wasn't really expecting anything to mind blowing so I'm not dissapointed at all. Things always get blow out of proportion. With Cameron anyway the movie regardless of the visuals will hopefully be amazing. Theres some obvious visual problems with terminator 2 now like the road in the background whilst there driving but that still doesn't stop me from enjoying the amazing movie that it is. The HD really makes a difference for this trailer too , one of the movies that will really benifit from it.

Exactly. Digital Valley my ass. He needs to keep rowing if he is trying to cross that stream. I'm just underwhelmed at what we were supposed to be seeing.

the trailer looks unbelivable in hd. I can't wait to see how this looks on the big screen.

Thank you! Watch this trailer in HD guys and you'll see details that otherwise would be lost watching it in just the standard way. To fully appreciate the details and the hard work involved getting this movie to look the way is through HD. It's not meant to be shown on some small screen in a standard mode. I bet it looks less stunning on low quality on youtube. *gasp* I am astonished!

I have a ticket to see a 30 minujtes preview of this is HD 3-D tomorrow night. I'm expecting that to be pretty good but to me it looks like the Final Fantasy filmatics...

I use blu ray but to be honest I can watch movies in any format without it usually bothering me. The trailer to this though seems to have a huge improvment in HD. Add in the 3d part with that too once its all ready to go it should look breathtaking.

Let us know how it goes. :D

We can agree to disagree. :)

Well I think we can all agree even the trailer for Avatar was better than that movie. :lol

Yeah, but that teaser for it looked pretty cool... the movie was definitely crappy.

I'm going out on a limb here and predicting Avatar to be Cameron's "Waterworld" ;) Hey, I LIKE Waterworld and I expect I'll like Avatar as well.... which is really all that matters. And I commend both Cameron and Costner for living their dreams, budget be-damned - and part of me is very jealous that I don't have hundreds of millions to throw at my pet project :lol

But generally speaking, I'm still very intrigued as to how it will fare with the masses. Will it be a Waterworld, or will it be a Passion of the Christ?

Of course it's much better. I wasn't blown away the first time I watched it on the microsoft site, in this small box with lost details. I was like, this is nice, but nothing I haven't seen before. Then I saw it on apple's site in HD, and I saw little details and the movement was more fluid. I could see all the hard work and all those small subtle details in the blue characters. Like their iris to the creases in their lips, to pours.. it was insane.

:lol I'm not disagreeing with you at all! I think the CGI is wonderful... and in 3D it will LOOK amazing. Not realistic, but amazing.

But ultimately, that's not what it's about. It's about how it speaks to audiences. If it doesn't speak, it could have the most amazing effects ever, securing it opening weekend audiences, but no return business.

My argument is that the technological prowess is a moot point. To the GENERAL PUBLIC it doesn't look that different from a lot of other stuff that's been put out recently... in fact, in their eyes it probably looks a little 'cheesy'. It will secure buzz and opening box office, but technology alone is not going to make it a "good film". We will have to wait and see with that. (and in fact, the way it looks may put some people off from even giving it a chance)

I predict you to be wrong, on a technical and artistic level, but if the story isn't strong, then I don't care how believable or non believable a world is, it's the story in the end. That is where I believe this film will have a hard time topping a movie like District 9. The CGI is superior. That much I know, but District 9 was a very fun smart movie with a great story!

Reading this post, it's fair to say we can agree to agree on what was said in this post.

Cant believe the negative reaction this is getting, i think it looks amazing and Cameron knows how to tell a story
