I don't see what the big deal is. This isn't fundamentally different than what George Lucas was doing more than a decade ago with The Phantom Menace. I'm sure I'll be more engaged in the story, but this trailer is nothing new.

in terms of Cameron films i think this'll be another "The Abyss" meaning whilst a good film, not a box office smash

Im stoked I saw Harry Potter in Imax 3D a few weeks ago and it totally blew my mind how much 3D had come on, its no longer the red and green haze I remember.

I was gutted that HP was only 12 minutes of 3D

I hope this is fully 3D throughout as that will make it that much more of an immersible ride

That's the nicest looking video game cut scene ever.

I was definitely expecting something more convincing with the CGI characters--from the looks of the trailer, this is nowhere near as groundbreaking as I'd been hearing.

I agree with those setting their expectation levels to Star Wars prequel-level visuals with better plot/acting/direction.

I don't see how people can keep complaining that it looks fake. A really tall blue person with a tail, large eyes, and glowing spots on their bodies is going to look fake even if it were real.

As a person who works with this type of stuff I can tell you they make this stuff as accurate as possible and they can do it quite well.

Disagree, I think in some instances todays make-up are wayyyy better than cgi...When I was looking at the trailer I was under the impression that I was looking 2 movies in one...Part of it looks like a bad pixar animated movie.Cant believe some of you think this lookss great...:duh

I bet Cameron will still pull a great story out of this film, but visually, the effects on this looks really bad...

It's called verisimilitude and it's all over the map. Sometimes in the prequels Yoda felt real and other times he felt fake. Same thing with the Hulk, the Transformers - even Jar Jar sometimes felt photographed on set rather than digitally inserted. Nature of the beast, and for all the talk of revolutionizing cinema I expected to not feel "fake" nearly every time I saw a CG character or setting. To be brutally honest, Kashyyyk in ROTS looks more far convincing than this planet.

From this clip, Cameron isn't doing anything Lucas didn't essentially invent more than a decade ago (and before the haters get to hating, just look at his ILM guys having nervous breakdowns as he explains what he's going ask of them in the DVD documentary). I just don't see anything new or revolutionary here, although maybe Cameron is referencing the 3D aspect rather than virtual characters and virtual worlds.

I'm sure this film will be much more entertaining than the prequels.

I'm not watching the trailer. This is one of those movies that I know I will appreciate more going in fully in the dark.

While I will watch the teaser, that is all I will watch.

I'm glad there is someone else out there that is as anal about NOT watching trailers as I am. :lol Trailers just give away too much now. None of my friends get it.

I went to the Avatar panel at SDCC and to be honest I wasn't very impressed. The CGI looked very cartoony to me. More like a video game then a movie, nothing ground breaking at all. Hopefully the story itself is very good or else I think this will be a big flop at the box office.

Is it really such a big deal that it is CGI? I look at it like it is a very well animated cartoon. And I am good with that.

This should go straight to video IMO.

The characters are a more complex than what we saw in the prequels, Yoda was a bit off, especially in Episode 2, at that time they didn't have Sub-Surface Scattering to make him realistic. Jar Jar never looked real. But honestly, say something that would make it look more realistic, it's not like this is in the uncanny valley, these are believable characters. Taking a look at the more subtle effects it looks like the planet environment is mostly CG if not entirely, and that looks real.
