Seems people just want to hate, just for the sake of hate lol

We're all gonna go see it. lol

I'll see it just for the fact it's 3D, because once I started seeing movies in Digital 3D, I always HAVE to see the 3D version. Ice Age 3, UP, Monsters vs Aliens etc.
So I'm sure as a 3D experience this will kick ass. And it does have a lot of detail. That Jungle enviroment looked all CGI. That's alot of work.

Appreciate good ART and hard work when you see it.

The characters are a more complex than what we saw in the prequels, Yoda was a bit off, especially in Episode 2, at that time they didn't have Sub-Surface Scattering to make him realistic. Jar Jar never looked real.

I don't see this alleged complexity in the trailer, but even if we accept the claim at face value this still represents a very well done example of something that was "revolutionary" a decade ago. I do think there are shots where Jar Jar looked real (the dinner scene in TPM for example) but again, we're talking about an expected advance in technique over the space of 10 years rather than something that's actually groundbreaking - which Jar Jar was at the time. In fact it's very instructive that the contemporary criticism wasn't that Jar Jar looked fake and pulled viewers out of the movie, it's that Jar Jar as a character was annoying. That's actually an incredible technical achievement and speaks volumes about how revolutionary The Phantom Menace actually was.

But honestly, say something that would make it look more realistic, it's not like this is in the uncanny valley, these are believable characters.

They look like cartoons to me. I had the same problem with the pod racers from TPM. Nicely animated. Utterly fake. But maybe projected on a huge screen and presented in the context of a narrative they'll work. I just don't see any revolutionary technique or presentation here worth the hype.

Taking a look at the more subtle effects it looks like the planet environment is mostly CG if not entirely, and that looks real.

It looks like a painting to me.

But again, perhaps the hype has nothing to do with the CG and is all about the 3D. This is perfectly adequate work that is unlikely to distract the viewer. My reaction is purely from the POV that Avatar was hyped as something new and sorry, I've been watching this kind of filmmaking since the '90s.

ohh here we go !!
The haters of AVATAR !!
People see 2 min of amazing footage and they HATE I HATE WE HATE !!

people are never pleased.

Who here is hating? I know reading comprehension and critical thinking are out of fashion these days, but I don't see any vitriolic posts.

I, for one, really like the graphics. I think they're very well done. I took some screen grabs from the hi-res trailer. Here's some of the highlights:

Notice the detail in his feet and even the simple hospital gown. Looks amazing.

This shot shows good detail on his face and hair, and even the detail in his gear.

My, what nice pores you have!

Again, ridiculous skin detail. Eyes look great, too.

While somewhat blurry, notice his teeth - they look awesome. Also notice how the light reflects of his furrowed brow - makes it seem like he has "layers" of skin and muscle.

That's the nicest looking video game cut scene ever.

That sums it up exactly. This is VERY beautiful animation...but not the mind blowing fusion of live action and CGI that we were led to believe. Honestly, my first reaction was "whoa, this is definitely more Delgo than, say, Transformers." I believed that the robots were there in the Bay films. These animated characters do not appear to coexist with the humans in any sense of reality at all. If Avatar was sold as a 100% CGI film, a la Pixar, this would have been a treat to see. But based on Cameron's boasting and the trailer's poor mix of live action and CG, I am less than impressed. I guess I was sucked in by the hype, but now I'm left confused.

But apparently this is mediocre or decent CGI. :lol

NOT!!! That's some phenomenal stuff right there!

Wofford, you looking at this? Oh you can't... cause you're blind man! BLIND!!!!

It didn't blow me away, but I shall still go see it in the theatre. I quite like the big blue thundercats.

I will just chime in here and give my 2 cents. I can't wait to see the movie. I think it is hard to show a trailer for something that was purely meant to be seen in 3D.

Now that said. Some of the trailer I was completely blown away. I wasn't sure at times if I was watching real people or not. I can't wait to see this!

My only gripe and I have read a few pages back and it seems to be a common theme are the blue people. They do not look real for some reason. Everything else looks real but they stand out. Is that done on purpose? Are they the Avatars? Is this by design? I really don't know and don't want to know to be honest. I try to stay out of stuff until I get to see the movie. But if they are just supposed to be an alien race than I will say they could have done a better job IMO. The humans looked so real.

Either way though, I am very excited to see this and I WILL make this movie my first IMAX experience.

Very awesome detail.

By hate, he and I mean, that people are jumping to criticism already, based on two minutes of quick shots and picking it apart, as if you could do it better and aren't happy it wasn't the movie you wanted it to be.
Just like people here do with the collectibles. :D

Animation is animation. So who gives a crap if it looks like a video game or cartoon. Who said he was going for total realism? It's blue people on a jungle planet for god sakes.
This is damn good artwork and animation, so stop being in denial and shut up and see the movie is actually a decent story before saying you don't like how it looks.
If you don't like animation or CGI, go watch 27 dresses again.
