Joss Whedon was a guest on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" last night and Fallon tried to get a scoop out of the filmmaker about Marvel's The Avengers 2.

He asked whether there are new characters and Whedon replied, "There are new characters. I've already said that we're going to have a brother-sister team, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who were great mainstays of The Avengers when I was reading the comics as a kid."

Fallon said that he did not know the characters and then asked whether they had started casting them yet. Whedon said, "Not yet, we're doing that now."

Whedon said he is writing the sequel now and then was asked why he picked the two characters. He said, "well, besides the fact that I grew up reading them, their powers are very visually interesting. One of the problems I had on the first one was, everybody basically had punchy powers. 'I can hit,' 'I can also hit.' Hopefully it didn't get too boring. But coming into the second one, he's got super speed. She can weave spells and a little telekinesis, get inside your head. There’s good stuff that they can do that will help sort of keep it fresh."

Quicksilver will be in Avengers 2. Unknown if Evans will be casted for the role or if that can happen unless their is a negotiation between the two.

Eitherway i doubt either will be very fleshed out, so it matters not aslong as he's a cool character in each

I like punchy powers, but Thor can also summon lightning and fly (pretty much). Maybe Hulk is limited to being punchy, but not Thor!!

Thor can also summon lightning and fly (pretty much).

But he never uses either of those powers to defeat enemies in The Avengers. He uses punchy powers.

I just remember ALL the Avengers punching a lot. I mean A LOT. Even Iron Man, who has all kinds of lasers was punching the alien thingies.

They needed punching.

I think Hulk gets the gold medal for punchy powers in the Avengers movie.

You can also get sloshed if you take a drink every time Whedon sucker punches an Asgardian.

Well his wings are retractable in a sense. Plus there was some concept art floating about showing him with big mechanical wings. I'm sure they WILL be CGI'ed majority of the time though.

W(hy)TF would they bring Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch if they can fully use these characters? They can't say where their powers come from, they can't mention they are mutants, can't give a good insight in their story and background. These are gonna be some bastardize version of the two. They would be better off bringing characters whose background isn't tied to another studio. Should have brought Ant-Man, Wasp, Vision or even Wonder Man.

After Iron Man 3, I'm not sure about this movie anymore.

I wasn't talking about you (or anyone) in particular, but just thread to thread there seems to be a hella lot of worrying over unreleased stuff lately.

Actually, in general you usually come off as fairly positive outlook on upcoming stuff.

I like Daredevil, Fantastic Four and Ghost Rider 1.

At least I didn't say Ghost Rider 2 and Wolverine Origins.

I'll have to get back to you on Blade 3 and X3 though, need to give them another spin.

Just look at how many people were worried that Avengers wouldn't work. "Oh there's too many characters. Whedon won't be able to balance them enough. There wont be enough action, he's not known for that" etc etc...well we know the rest of the story...
