I don't expect anything less from Whedon. Thank god he's moving on after this movie.

I really liked Winter Soldier, but I don't get where it's being held up as a marvel of directing enough to get people pushing to have the director's do other projects, I'm not against them taking on Avengers 3 but I just don't understand what stands out so much about them.

I also don't hold Whedon to any pedistal other than I will say, of any attempts I've ever seen to make so many characters a focal point in a movie and so many failures, what he did with the Avengers was unbelievable and was one of the main things I walked away from seeing that movie and being excited about, usually there's always that feeling of, if only they gave so and so more time or better time, I felt like it was all well done and balanced and the editing and composition of the final battle worked out great.

I feel the Russos altogether put together a much "tighter" movie. Their casting was arguably top-notch (getting Redford in that role who made the Pierce character more compelling) and Mackie as Falcon who served up as more than just a sidekick. The script was excellent too (I feel some of the dialogue was the weakest part of "The Avengers"), it was more "grounded" and it followed the characterization of all the cast. All the main players had their backgrounds and personalities fleshed out so no new character really felt underutilized. The characterization was akin to Kenneth Braunaugh (who did THOR and is known for his films focusing on Shakespeare and character).

Part of it could also be that the Russos really elevated Cap 2. I feel Cap 2 was better than the first movie and it was A LOT better than I thought it would be considering how Cap was portrayed in 'The First Avengers' and 'Avengers'
