Watched over the weekend. Just so you know I am not a comic book guy (Im a Star Wars/Alien/Predator/Robocop guy). Before all these comic book movies started hitting theatres I was only aware of a handful A List characters (ie. Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Wonderwoman, Hulk, Joker, Penguin…you get the idea). I didn’t know who Iron Man was until the movie came out. My knowledge of Marvel/DC characters are only made aware to me through movies (ie. Vision, Scarlett Witch, Bane, Scarecrow, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ultron etc.). That being said I do enjoy comic related movies and have a vast library of them on DVD/Blu ray (including the Phase 1 & 2 movie minus THOR).

I did not watch any previews/reviews before watch sitting in the theatres so I was “going in fresh”. My initial thoughts? It played out like a big budget blockbuster, popcorn, summer should be. Did it blow mw away? No. Was I entertained Yes & No. Ultron, both character and design didn’t excite me. There is only so much destruction of buildings you can watch before it all blends in. I did think that with a movie with so many character it played out fabulous with screen time. Humour exchange was great. I thought I was going see Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello surrounding a injured Raphael on the ground when they entered the farmhouse!! This movie needed a injection of something new and I think Vision delivered. I wonder why “Falcon” was not present in the final battle. I think just a few seconds to show that he was physically there would have helped. He kind of just showed up in the end with the new line of Avengers like “Hey what did I miss!!!”

So after first watch for me it was underwhelming. Overall I think I will enjoy this movie more after the second, third multiple viewings. It took me four viewing before I thought TWS was a good movie. The first time I could not see what others were seeing. Which shows you that Im not a one off watcher with the comic book “movie” world!!

That's China. Japan worships Godzilla, that's why they hate Hulk.

Also, just for fun, evolution of a live action Hulk.

Well, it was the first time Hulk was on the big screen (when Marvel thought Hulk was more popular than IM) so I enjoyed the heck out of it.

Today, watching that movie is the equivalent of watching moss grow!

Wait.......

Lee's HULK is a great film with good story, solid cast and awesome cinematography.
The only way it could be better is if it was straight serious, without some of those corny written characters and cheesy moments.
Poor CGI was its only big problem, which is excusable considering the 2003 release.

Leterrier's Hulk was a dull roller coaster.
With those corny written characters and cheesy moments.
And Terrible looking Abomination.
And William Hurt.

I really enjoyed the original Hulk film, it was a dark, depressing story about Banner. Eric Bana did a good job too, the CGI HULK wasn't the best, perhaps if CGI was better then people would not hate on the movie so much (90% of the hate seems to be solely on the design of HULK)?

CGI wise it doesn't stand up to today's Hulk, but I still think the story is good.

My post should probably be in the "unpopular post" thread, but Hulk is a concept character, not a story character. That's why he never works as a one-off movie. He's better in little bits. He has no story, no arc. And no one really wants to see him cured -- which would give him an arc and thus a story. But the old beauty-and-the-beast is so obvious and overused. Truly, he's a character with a dilemma but without a story -- everyone likes him because he's just unabashed rage -- the angry man, the beast, the frustration of... everything, whatever you want to call him. He's testosterone on steroids on meth on... he's a young boy's raging hormones.

That's why every "little boy" loves: Hulk... smash!

But what about his romantic entanglement with Black Widow...:slap
