My post should probably be in the "unpopular post" thread, but Hulk is a concept character, not a story character. That's why he never works as a one-off movie. He's better in little bits. He has no story, no arc. And no one really wants to see him cured -- which would give him an arc and thus a story. But the old beauty-and-the-beast is so obvious and overused. Truly, he's a character with a dilemma but without a story -- everyone likes him because he's just unabashed rage -- the angry man, the beast, the frustration of... everything, whatever you want to call him. He's testosterone on steroids on meth on... he's a young boy's raging hormones.

That's why every "little boy" loves: Hulk... smash!

He'd be perfect for a Planet Hulk movie

But what about his romantic entanglement with Black Widow...:slap

Beauty-and-the-beast. And it was silly. And seems no one likes it; it's one of the universal complaints.

In case it was unclear, I said Hulk can never have a satisfying story without destroying the character, not that they've never tried giving him a story. The stories they give him don't work as a full-film, only in small doses -- that's why he's better served in a team environemnt like Avengers.

:exactly: Very true. For me I didn't believe that Black Widow had feelings for Banner. I guess her performance was unconvincing. It was a useless side plot that didn't do anything to help the story. Then again it might be a big part of the comics, but I haven't read them.

That's the problem, it's really the only story direction you can take with Hulk. And yet it never really works because to finish that story Hulk would have to become.... not Hulk. So consequently, viewers don't fall for it. They know it can only end in tragedy.

I'm late to the coversation here Wor-Gar. How'd you rate AoU? I give it a 5/10. Maybe a 6.

6 is probably fair. I've only seen it once, I hear it plays better second time around which is likely, but as a film (or movie -- "film" sounds silly for a movie like this) I think it still only rises to a 6 at best.

Avengers was an 8 to me though. Good crowd-pleaser and very well-handled. I almost want to give it a 9 because I enjoyed it so thoroughly, but I think Winter Soldier is the only MCU movie I've seen that earned a 9 from me. Really well-crafted movie for the genre.

I rate AoU a weak 7..maybe 6. Avengers was a solid 9- loved it and still do. AoU has..problems.
TWS a solid 8.

I give Avengers 8, TWS 7. Personally I have to save my 9's and 10's for movies that truly move me. One that comes to mind would be Braveheart. When that movie was over everyone stood and applauded in the theater.

You're pretty spot on with Avengers/TWS.

You really should give AOU another 6 viewings like I did to get all the nuances.

My rating for Avengers is 8.5; I'd give AOU a 5. CGI was fantastic, but there were too many glaring continuity errors, editing issues, characterization oversights, and so on. I cannot really be lenient just because "a lot was cut from the film". Don't shoot that much if you don't intend on making it that long.

TWS is a 10/10 for me. Avengers a 9-9.5/10. AOU will probably end up being an 8/10, my initial thought was a 7.5.

The 5-6 range would roughly be where the Iron Man sequels would end up for me.

Not even a point for Uma? I mean look at that rack-- nope never mind, that's just her hair.
