Yeah, something with Venom would be good I think.
The venom storyline is my favorite from the animated series

If they get it back I would like to see 1 solo movie before throwing him into the Avengers..... and a new actor
I don't really see Marvel getting Spiderman back. I could totally see them "renting" him for a couple of movies. But as much as people complain about the Spidey movies, they do make money for Sony. So to sell him off completely I would think would take a LOT of money.
Not that Disney doesn't have it of course. I just think they'll keep him but rent him to Marvel for a couple of movies. Totally my own speculation though and I'm usually wrong.
That solo spiderman flick has been done though. Five times. Yes they have packed in to many villains in most the movies. And it wasn't done especially well in a few others. But I'm all for trying to bring spiderman along in a NEW way. We have seen a solo spiderman film more then iron man, thor and Cap. Nearly combined. It's a new way to introduce the character. And part of Spider-Man's charm, for me, is the humor and how unlike the other characters he is. Best way to do that is have them all in one movie. It's also a way to get new people exposed to a character they may not otherwise go see in a solo. I'm all for them doing it.
This has been a persistent rumor/story for a couple years in the film world. I had heard six months ago it was a done deal. For Sony it makes sense in that, they can't sell or lease the character to other studios. Only back to marvel, because Sony is just leasing it from Marvel as is. And this way they invest less time and money with a higher percentage of profit possible. It makes sense for marvel in nearly every way imaginable.
I don't know if all the new leaked details are true. But most line up with things I've heard. To me, Marvel has earned the benefit of the doubt. I am 100% behind whatever they want to try. Up to this point they have done a great job overall. When you can propel iron man and thor and captain America to bigger cultural status, (just currently) and bigger box office and more marketing then Superman and Batman and Spider-man and the Xmen....then you have done things pretty well.
Just bring Spiderman 2099 to the present already and bam you made me happy

oh yeahHave him fight present-Scorpion, that was a great fight.
Unlikely today but there IS the possibility of Sony selling Spidey back to Marvel. Sony only has the film rights at this point, as Disney was able to negotiate for the animation and merchandise rights from Sony shortly after buying Marvel, so Sony's rev stream is pretty much motion picture only. The Spidey films are showing a downward trend and it's pretty clear post-hack that Sony doesn't have any idea on how to revive this franchise. Granted, downward trend is going from $760M to $700M, still a healthy theatrical gross, but as the superhero movie genre gets more crowded and Sony continues to struggle creatively in the next few years, this could quickly turn from disappointment to train wreck and hurt the value of the Spidey franchise. I don't see this happening anytime soon, but it's certainly possible in the next few years. If the Marvel co-production deal falls through (which it probably will, my guess), Sony does its spinoff, bombs again (hopefully big time), and at that point Sony would be much more open to selling back the rights.
oh yeah

You mentioned DC, they belong to Warner Bros don't they? I'm sure I read that somewhere.
yep...
Technically never sold the film rights either. Sony doesn't own the film rights. They have a lifetime lease, so long as they release a movie every so many years. And even then Marvel gets a cut. And marvel has rights to merchandising for the films. But Sony gets a cut. Sony can't sell the rights or lease them to anyone else. They are not considered an asset, so if what happened to MGM happens to Sony the court can't sell Spider-Man's film rights to help make Sony solvent. They could agree to relinquish any future claims on film rights so they revert back to Marvel for a fee. (Or for free if they wanted). They could also come to just about any understanding they wanted with marvel. It's marvels property so marvel could do whatever.
It's complicated, but Sony didn't own merchandising or cartoons, they just have an auto renew lease (if a new movie is released theatrically in the USA every set number of years) on the film rights, and they get a cut of the profit on film related merchandising.
Spoke too soon, Sony's reps are now denying that they came to an agreement with Disney for Infinity War
