Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Movie had tons of issues IMO. Fun to watch but one of the messier MCU films. They contradicted their own Time travel logic numerous times, way too much convenience too... entire FFH cast got snapped and just resumes life per normal in the next movie? okay... Thanos comes to the future without having a time machine or "time gps" the Avengers spent the first hour talking about needing (Nebula had it with her in present day so 2014 thanos didnt have anything).

Honestly surprised it's getting so many "best movie ever" reviews. Thought it was fun, loaded with fan service per usual for the MCU - but in terms of pacing and continuity it was one of the messier movies.

Agreed. Great movie in terms of the overall story and character resolutions, but execution as far as the details of the plot was incredibly messy. So unlike the Russos as well, which is surprising. And weren’t they responsible for that really good branching timelines episode of Community?

I also find it kinda off putting when a movie or something tells us not to worry about the rules of time travel because they’re so confusing/messing. Futurama got it correct and satisfying numerous times.

I think a big extravagant funeral for
BW would have felt forced, especially since her death did have very visible and lasting impacts on those she was closest to.

I think that like ROTK and IW before it this is a film with so many moving parts and all coming to a head in so many ways after so many years that there are bound to be any number of "woulda, coulda, shoulda" moments and/or missed opportunities.

It all comes down to whether it worked for you or not. There's definitely a few things I would have done differently (Stark taking his helmet off in the final freaking battle every other second was a bit distracting) but they are few, far between, and ultimately forgivable in light of the most epic finale and send off for my favorite superheroes (both on the screen and the page.)

MCU 2008-2019 will definitely be for the ages.

AEG even found a way to retroactively make Thor TDW kind of cool, lol. The only films not retroactively boosted by this one in fact seem to be TIH and CM. Not a bad job for the *23rd* film in a series, lol.

Yup.

I actually thought for a second that TIH would’ve been finally fully embraced by the MCU either thru a Betsy Ross return OR raged Hulk looking like TIH Hulk but with Ruffalo’s face lol

But nope.

Anyways pretty ballsy of Strange to know Stark’s outcome and not break down and tell him about it.

At the end of the day it’s actually pretty easy to just do a cynical DiFabio (the only DiFabio lol) and throw your hands up in the air and say **** this narrative mess full of cgi junk.......

But I won’t so there lol :nana:

And to think that WB was setting up JL's Darkseid battle to require that Flash go back in time to fix things but scrapped that idea in order to "be more like Marvel" lol.

I don't see why you're jabbing at me. It's being a realist, not a cynic. I just looked back at some of your posts and we're on the same page about a lot of stuff. You want to criticize things (like the Hulk for instance) just as much, but for whatever reason, you hold back and dismiss it like your opinion is satire!

There's good things in it, there's stupid things in it. So whaaaaat? You want me to just post "I liked this, I liked that" and that's it? That's horrible.

Just ordered this bad boy from Spec Fiction/Queen Studios:

"I know what it’s like to lose your savings. To feel so desperately that you’re out of space, yet to fail nonetheless. Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives. Or should I say, I will."

The texture on that is amazing.

Yeah I don't know how AEG could be anything other than a bitter pill to swallow for the diehard Hulk fans. Hell even
Pepper Potts
had a bigger moment than him, lol.

I'm really glad that Jon Favreau got to appear for the final curtain call. Who could have ever guessed that this is where we'd one day be when his first Iron Man trailer debuted.

I think Cap Marvel looks cute with her new haircut, but I didn't like her scene with Thanos though. Also, as much as I like Thanos, he was nerfed badly in this film. I was wondering what made him the "most powerful being in the universe", and I didn't see it, besides his incredible durability and strength. He's no pushover, but he lacked his comic powers.

For me the best part of the CM & Thanos match up was seeing the look on CM's face just before Thanos punched her ass right out of the film for a bit. It just made happy!

Speaking of happy, SW & the twins taking on Thanos was awesome, I wish it went on a little longer.

Well, in IW he did tell Tony "Don't think for a second that I wouldn't sacrifice your life or the kid's to protect the Time Stone" (paraphrasing), and it turns out that's exactly what he did.

As for people being disappointed about how (in their opinion) the Hulk didn't have his moment to shine and/or took a back seat to characters like CM or SW who were "less deserving", I just have to laugh. First of all, Hulk had plenty of moments in TA and AoU. Secondly, with a film & franchise as epic as this one, IMO that's akin to winning a multi-million dollar lottery, then whining about losing the office NCAA Basketball pool. I think a little perspective is in order.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

They really did a great job with the "greatest hits" deal......tipping their cap to all the previous films and characters that contributed.

Who would have thought in the 80s and 90s that they could pull off what we are seeing now?

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I love it when you use that gif. :lol

And I'm still cracking up at your comment that the moment both armies faced each other was the moment that all other movie franchises just quit and went home. I'm picturing DC, SW, GoT, Avatar, etc., all throwing their torches into the fountain and disappearing into the night like the worshipers at the end of CTB, lol.

I think the MCU might do something similar every 10 years, like a big crossover event. It might be Galactus in the next one, with every superhero going up against him. After EG, they will slowly build up to another huge event 10 years from now. We might even get another "civil war" type of event prior to the big finale. Maybe the Avengers vs X Men?

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Yeah I could see Galactus being the next Endgame level event with the FF and X-Men joining the fray. It'll never be the same without Tony Stark and Steve Rogers though. It was still nice to see him passing the shield to Sam.

On another note unlike IW I thought that Thanos looked pretty much perfect in this one from beginning to end. No "Gamora throne room" scenes this time around. :yess:

No. That time was needed to establish the aftermath of the Decimation and set up the plot. You must have the attention span of a goldfish.

Yes. You can establish all of that in a smaller time frame. Forced humor extended the first act to the point where you are sitting there wondering when they are going to move the plot forward. We didn't need Anthony Russo (whose character was killed off in Civil War mind you) forcing sexuality. Widow feeling sorry for herself, Hulk/Antman selfie, Antman tacos blown away. Thor yelling at a kid on Fortnite? How is that setting up the plot? Infinity War was tight and Endgame was bloated.

Well, Cap is still a super soldier, so even if he's older he can still lead the team, or be a Nick Fury type figure a la Clint Eastwood or Big Boss (metal gear game). Tony, he'll be missed in more ways than one because I don't see any replacement in the current MCU. The new heroes just don't have the same level of star power as RDJ. Then again, neither did Cap in the beginning, but he slowly became the modern Superman, so maybe in ten years the MCU will have a new face of the franchise. They still could bring back Tony briefly because of the time travel no one is ever really gone. :lol
