Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

That is so much money. I genuinely believe that Marvel could have done zero marketing for this film (except for a poster of course) and people would have still known it was coming and filled cinemas. This is possibly the most anticipated movie in history, you'd be really lucky to find someone that didn't know about Endgame.

I can't help but wonder how many extra tickets the marketing has sold and whether that 200million is just eating into their profits.

And they would get every penny back, but what’s funny is that i feel like this movie doesn’t really need to have any because the brand is selling itself

I don't think this is the most anticipated movie ever.

I can't remember ever seeing anything that can come close to the unbridled hype over Episode One.

I thought so too, but I work in a hospital and very few people at all know or even care about this movie. I told my coworker that I managed to get tickets for Saturday and he asked me if that’s the movie where Superman comes back.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

^^^ Hahahah uhm yeah exAclty. I live in Philly and I heard about black panther daily leading up to it in my hospital. Not a single peep about this. I was on my phone “trying” to get tickets the day they went on sale. I probably looked like a lunatic.

That's what I mean, people would have gone to see this movie regardless of any marketing, so I can't help but wonder if the huge amount spent on marketing was a bit of a waste.

Im just gonna wait ... its a week away.

There was more anticipation of Infinity War than there is for End Game (for me at least).

I feel like it's up there.

Biggest hype movies of my particular cinema-going lifetime - Batman 1989, TMNT 1990, Jurassic Park, Independence Day, The Phantom Menace.....The Avengers 2012 might have been on there but I don't think I was majorly hyped about it, rather it was the film that really caught my attention and made me realize ''ohh, they've really got something here''. The Force Awakens was next I suppose - a sequel to Return of the Jedi with the original cast coming back, pretty big deal. And I mostly enjoyed it at the time.

Then of course Infinity War.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I wonder who's going to get the gauntlet if they actually do kill Thanos off. Maybe Hulk? lol they got like the same sized hands more or less. But Hulk is strong enough as it is. I prefer him with raw power and nothing helping him.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

It's everyone vs Thanos. Don't need leaks/spoiler to know that. Don't be surprise to see at least one death. Just about half the population disappeared last movie, this one won't live up to the hype if there is no casualties. Some fans gonna get butt hurt that's for sure.

I agree 100% about Hulk. Good call.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I think what sets this apart from the likes of Star Wars: Episode I in terms of anticipation is the fact that Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of 11 years of intertwined multi-franchise cinematic storytelling and narrative. Cinema goers have been following this every year since 2008 and are invested emotionally in the fate of the characters and the outcome of the story. This is completely unprecedented in cinema history.

Of course anticipation for Star Wars: Episode I was extremely high, but Star Wars *just* a three movie trilogy at that point. A super massively popular trilogy with an expanded universe etc, but a trilogy just the same.

All in my opinion, of course.

Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Having been there at opening night on PT, in my 20’s, in my experience , the hype for Endgame is no where near the hype of the PT.

However.......

The lack of the socially isolating Internet, we could visibly SEE the effects of the PT on the general population. It was in the streets, lines around the theaters, I personally waited 12 hours to get tickets first thing in the morning , for the first show that evening. Hell people were in line to get premiums from fast food restaurants...

The Internet shades much of that excitement, but also makes it much easier to get tickets.....and information, which makes the average person more involved, and not having to wait in the elements for hours. Audiences these days would never wait for EG like we waited for PT. They are too fickly and lazy. Therefore ticket sales do not really gauge excitement level as it takes little effort to obtain them.

Its easy to think we, here on this forum, are a good cross section of the average person...

But we are not.

Getting tickets is much worse, you might say little effort but now that everyone has caught on that to the fact that tickets are bought digitally it leaves you with slimmer chances of getting movie times that fit your schedule, my local franchise app has never gave me issues until endgame, and quite frankly the app and website were down for like 20 minutes, i reacted and got them through fandango which made me realize the slaughter of the theaters being sold out same day premiere, i managed to get a good time but a bit later, which is not bad but knowing the people who got the good seats got lucky.

Is it stressful, a bit, i had to be up just to make sure i got my tickets on time. Waiting 12 hours guaranteed you to see the same movie at least, now if you did the same you are penalized and forced to go on show times that don’t fit your schedule unless your off two three days later.

Even then movies like EG and SW are the onesies and twosies experiences of a lifetime because movie theater attendance has been on a decline for the past four years

When the Cineplex site kept crashing I drove down to the closet theatre to get tickets. Seemed like the logical thing to do
