But Sony does not have the right to know who visits "hacker" sites.

Yes, I agree with everything Tim said- The part I have a big problem with was the court ordering that Youtube had to turn over names and IPs to Sony. That's a foot in the door that is just dying to be exploited by big business and government. I know there is a precedent set with file sharing sites - but this wasn't file sharing and there was no expectation of wrong doing on the part of people that just visited his site.

What's to stop the government from requesting IPs of everyone that "like" the Muslim Brotherhood on Facebook? Where does it stop?

One of the great things about the US is that we aren't shot for peaceful protests. Granted, the DDoS is illegal - but as a form of protest - it can be effective.

people actually go to sony.com ?

I'm sure they already have...successfully...

This is NOT cool. For a while yesterday I couldn't connect to play a game. It worked after about 15 minutes. Now, it's not at all. Tried connecting to Uncharted multiplayer. No go. Kept getting errors. So I did a connection test just to be sure. My connection succeeded but not the playstation network connection. That failed. Tried again, failed. And one more time, passed. So I tried connecting to multi again. Error.

Switched games to Call of Duty. Because I needed an update, couldn't play that either. So now I can't even play a game NON multi player. This is ridiculous!

I hate hackers. They sometimes act like terrorists and eventually I'm sure they'll be treated as such. There's way too much of this going around now a days and it has to stop at some point. Stiff penalties need to be given out.

1) These idiots aren't "hacking" anything. Seriously, if this is classified as hacking, then anybody who ever sent packets to an internet destination is a "hacker".

2) To the best of my knowledge, a hacker has never killed anybody while hacking.

1) I work for the Federal Government in IT and it IS a form of hacking like it or not.

2) So by that logic, you have to actually kill someone in order to be a terrorist ? I think not. Here's a definition of terrorism..."Terrorism is the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion. At present, the International community has been unable to formulate a universally agreed, legally binding, criminal law definition of terrorism". Coercion..isn't that what these people are doing ? I'm not happy with you so there, I'm attacking your sh! t. You let me know if you feel any different when your life gets hacked into so bad that you lose your identity to someone else and your CC are wiped.

1) I guess it's just semantics, but a DDOS attack is not hacking, no matter who you work for. If the government wants to prosecute it as "hacking", then that's their thing, but there is no amount of hacking involved in a DDOS attack whatsoever.

2) I have a real problem throwing people (many of which are probably minors) who deny access to a web site, in this case an entertainment service, in with jihadists who strap bombs to themselves or fly planes into buildings. But that's just me. :dunno

1) I'm not persuing this anymore since you don't seem to understand the overall picture of what it entails. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberterrorism

2) So now you're making a global picture of terrorists just being muslims and middle Eastern people. Timothy McVay, The shoe bomber, etc etc...

I'm talking DDOS and you tell me that I don't know what it entails by linking me to a wiki article on cyberterrorism? :rotfl

You must be laughing at yourself because you obviously didn't read it...first line for the literate people "Cyberterrorism is a phrase used to describe the use of Internet based attacks in terrorist activities, including acts of deliberate, large-scale disruption of computer networks..."

You seem to be trying to make a point that everything that can be classified as "cyberterrorism" can also be classified as "hacking". In the case of DDOS, you could maybe classify it as "cyberterrorism", if that's your thing, but nobody broke into any systems, and no data was compromised, so I fail to see how it is "hacking."

But whatever, we seem to have turned this thread into an IT nomenclature pissing contest; I think I'm out now. :peace

So I'm guessing I'm not the only person who cannot connect to the psn? Been trying allllllll day. I'm so frustrated.

Things are getting worse. Now these ****** hackers are attacking personal employees of Sony.

https://playstationlifestyle.net/2011/04/04/anonymous-gets-serious-attacks-sony-employees/

Update: Other Dox attacks highlighted by the group could include:

Craigslist – Make a ad in the “free stuff” section, or in “erotic services” and “casual encounters” as is evident here there are many horny men who will relentlessly pursue someone who they believe to be 19/f.

STD Postcards – send one of these e-postcards notifying the target that one of their previous sexual partners has a STD. Makes for an uncomfortable wait for them. Alternatively call an AIDS hotline and ask them to anonymously tell the target they could have HIV, thats a 6 month wait until the test comes back.

Free UPS Boxes create an account and order the target a couple of hundred boxes & labels, fedex also offer free boxes.

Google Maps use Google maps to locate local businesses to mess with the target.

Call them:

Skype – Use skype to call the target. When you first register a skype account you get one free call…

IP Relay – Ask the operator not to announce at the start of the call. This is a service only available to people in the USA.

Currently SonyRecon is only kicking off, but the group have already uncovered Sony employees’ family records and personal details. We’ve left out links to the details, and the actual information included so that the employees details are not further compromised, but it is worrying that the group could uncover information so quickly.

For example, Robert S. Wiesenthal, Group Executive, Sony Corporation, leading Corporate Development and Mergers and Acquisitions at Sony headquarters’ family history is currently being released onto the internet. His marital status, age, place of address, education and even whether he has children has been discovered. Other main targets include Nicole Seligman and Sony boss Howard Stringer, but multiple Sony employee emails are noted as future targets. In fact, one anon complained “No one found ANY info on Stringers kids?”

Meanwhile, both OpSony and SonyRecon have targeted those involved in the actual lawsuit against Geohot, with members of OpSony singling out the judge of the case.

SonyRecon founder randomtask stated:

sony , the judge and sonys lawyers are all valid targets

SonyRecon have also began compiling personal information of the lawyers as well as the plaintiffs involved in the case.

Update 2: The website of the company handling Sony’s case has been brought down.

Update 3: One SonyRecon member boasted on the IRC (unconfirmed that he actually did it):

lol well like 30 min ago i left chocolate rain on the judge’s voicemail lawl

The extent of the attacks remains to be seen, but PlayStation LifeStyle will keep you updated.

Going after employees like that is such a low move. If there was any hope that a judge may be lenient with them, I would say that is out the window now. I hope all involved get the maximum penalty allowed.
