That's two, and I told him I'd buy in a couple weeks making three. Anybody else?
Maybe he bought those to practice paint on? :dunno.

Why doesn't somebody ask him.

Very strange that Proteus is buying sculpts from Q... the two I saw were Rainman's Dude and Imarsqed's Bale; so neither were Trevor's sculpts. But you'd think he would be aware of the wrongness of supporting Q especially as he's supposed to be the legitimate alternative to him :huh

Inflated price? You are getting Trevor sanctioned sculpts. Not illicit recasts. So the inflated price as far as i can tell are due to Trevor's royalties and the paint work itself. In fact, you could argue that at $180 you are actually getting a decent deal on the painted final sculpt considering $180 is what a painter like Nathan charges JUST to paint it without factoring the cost of the cast (resin is not CHEAP) and the royalty fee to Trevor.

This is all speculation anyway... because for all we know Trevor sent him original casts to work from... but at the end of the day everything is a recast. Sal isn't selling sculpts with bubbles or seams or rough edges... so its the same thing.

Well... resin really isn't expensive. To buy a medium sized set (which are two 16oz bottles you mix) of good quality resin is around $20 or $30, but each bottle can yield 20 or more casts. Molding is the more costly part of customs and that is generally $20-$30 of material for a mold of which you can generally make at least 10 if not more casts from before it gives out. That's of course paying retail for higher quality resin and silicone.

So really a head (when you factor out time) is only about $5 or so in materials... at least that's the estimate I arrived at when I did casts some of my work. And it's the reason Q can sell these all day long for $40-$50... he's making a huge profit off of each and every one.

At the end of the day $180 for a painted head is quite high. Not many people charge $150 for a repaint and few can actually deliver on that level of quality. The Proteus paint jobs are nice, but more on part with the D-Studio work from Rainman.

If Trev trusts sal with the sculpts...i am assuming he is able to make proper judgement on whether or not he's giving us recasts or not. Honestly...if what I receive is as good as what I see on their website, they can keep my $180. It's not like I will chip away the paint to see if it's a recast or not. sometimes ignorance is bliss. Some people follow a moral code, good on you, some, like me, just want a damn walt head on his figure.

I believe it was said in the announcement thread that the heads sculpted by Trevor were from originals which the exception of one head which was a cast of an cast since the original head was no longer useable (I don't recall which one this was). But at least for Trevor's work they are legitimate and sanctioned casts.

However, it'd doesn't explain why Proteus would buy recasts of others works. I can only guess that maybe he is unaware that Babyq is Q :huh Hopefully someone can contact him and ask him to clarify this.

I just think it's weird that the guy Trevor is trusting now is supporting and buying from the guy that made Trevor stop selling his casts on here!

I would assume Trevor would have explained the story to Sal

The bottom line is this is the whole reason why Trevor left the forum and stopped selling his casts to us. Because of Q this is why this happened now if this guy who is selling Trevors casts for him, is Trevor aware that he's buying heads off the guy who made him leave the forum in the first place?

My point exactly

The purchases proteus360, Sal, made from Q were recent, 9/15/13. He's said he's against recasters like Q and wants to see the original artist get paid but yet still buys from Q knowing he's supporting recasting? Lame and not worth risking a reputation and future sales as I said. :dunno

I previously looked for some cowboy boots for my Rick Grimes custom and Q sells these. Out of principle I paid twice the price and bought a pair of hot toys ones as i dont want to supporting him and help fund his recasting even if its only a recast of a pair of boots.
Sal would obviously know about recasting and Q or he wouldn't have known that Trevor’s sculpts are such a commodity.

There's nothing wrong with selling something at a price the market will bear. That's economics and business.

I am going to use the Joker 2.0 body for my chem suit Walt. Can anybody tell me if I can use any wrist pegs? I know the footpegs are specific, but are the wrist pegs?

Thanks

Plus his ethics seem to be that it’s ok to buy recasts of Rainman and Imarsqed work but not Trevor’s :dunno
