i kinda wish i would've take some step by step pics now. though thinking about it now that i've done this one there's a few things i'd of done differently. not that the job would've turned out better, just that the steps would of been a little less messy and more professionally done.

i'm still not quite done yet, i'll try to take some pics before i reseal him back up. also this one is powered by power adapter not batteries, that way you don't have to worry about dead batteries or leaking batteries.

so did you basically drill out a hole in the bottom of the bust and stick an LED lamp up it's A^^? :lol

yeah i guess in the simplest of terms that pretty much sums it up.:lol

here's some pics of the unfinished bottom. still need to shorten and install all the wiring properly, mount the junction box inside and install a transformer adaptor in the base so the wires can be diconnected.

the biggest problem, if there was one, was working with this big sucker upside down and operating power tools while holding him so as to not cause any damage.

Great job---if anyone has one for $180.00 lmk:wacky
great price you paid ---love the lights
Wish I had the guts to take apart and make better

What type of lights did you use? Can you show another picture of the lights and the end that plugs into the wall. Also did you just have to drill into the bottom and then cut out the piece big enough to get you hand in? meaning was it hollow inside or did you have to remove any material inside as well.

Thanks and looks incredible!!!

Sweet - I scored one of these on the cheap a while back too ($150 shipped)... If I had the tools, I would probably try this out too. Great job!

With the base hollowed out like that, is he a lot more front heavy?

wow that's really cheap.

no worse than before i would say. though when i'm done i was thinking of adding some wieght to the base before i seal him back up.

looks great.
I might try this with mine.

THough I think i will opaque the body from the inside so only the flames light up.
It would look awesome if all the cracks could be lit throughout the mouth and head.

actually that's what i had to do with the lower portion of the base. i used a chrome paint so it would reflect any extra light up to the body and flames. if not then the whole base lights up which shouldn't imo. it's bad enough that the back side of balrog lights up, but it's so cramped and rough in there that it's near impossible to block the light from passing through the back side.

ok here are some more pics of the wiring and everything glued into place, sorry no pics of the actual lights. i had some but my daughter deleted them before i could save them to tinypics.:(

still have to clean off the epoxy once it hardens enough.
also pics of the type of plug i used. i actually wanted to use a power adaptor type plug and though i have many power supplies, i don't have any of the female plugs from the devices that i kept the supplies from.:duh

so i canibalized an old vhs player that had this type of hook-up, not as discrete as i would of liked but it works.

Thanks for the pics! You did an excellent job. I have now decided to pick this up to do just what you have done. Definately has made the piece that much better.
