I'm going to let the secondary market go to work and see what kind of cockpit enhancements come out. Green Strawberries did a great photoetch kit for the 1:144 scale kit, I'll wait for something comparable.

Also it would be wise to let some of the RPF builder go first and see what advice they pass along.

Yeah, that's good advice.

It may be a few years before I get to make mine anyway (life with kids under five and running my own business = little spare time), so I'm watching everyone else go first!

Good point.. I got me already fibers (.25 and .50) and different colored illumiarors.. I definitely going to light up my cockpit more then just the white bars on the back

Now thinking of picking this up. Previously considered the Deago but the price, size, and complexity kind of turned me off. This model seems to be a decent compromise on all those concerns. Amazon has it in stock so I may wait to see if the price dips a bit around black Friday.

That's a good idea. I might be tempted too if it drops.

Any idea on when the other Gundam orders will ship? I guess I'm not in too much of a hurry as I still need to get up to speed on the tools and skills needed for something like this. The last model kit I built was over 35 years ago (a Darth Vader TIE Fighter, I think) and the complexity here looks ramped up exponentially.

Between just simply building it as is and allowing for community suggested mods, this is going to be a serious project. TBH, I really don't need a Millennium Falcon- a bunch of other ships or vehicles would have had me more enthused- but I'm looking forward to losing myself in a creative project that has some clear parameters and guidance.

Yeah, I just checked my email and found the ship notice as well.

Guess I better get cracking on putting together a basic set of tools. I'm thinking a couple different sizes of sprue cutters and some files to start.

What are peoples strategy for painting this? Is it a good idea to prime everything first while they are still on the sprues, or prime it in sections as it's assembled?

Mose - The very best thing you could do is join therpf.com and follow the Falcon building threads that will be springing up as more people sink their teeth into this build. There are experts who will be documenting how they assemble, light, paint and everything else to trick out this kit.

If it's been a long time since you last made a model I'd get some cheaper models (maybe some of the other Bandai SW ships) to test your skills out before getting onto the Falcon. This is what I'm doing first!

Kamandi- Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! That'll be a big help.

Noisy- that's not a bad idea, actually. I wish the other Bandai kits were cheaper, as close to $30 for a 4" model seems kinda steep to me- but on the other hand, I really should put in the time to practice before I tackle something a lot more complex.
And I had been considering doing some in scale TIE fighters with the end goal of eventually finding a way to display them with the Flalcon in some kind of multi level diorama.

I'm doing the same thing. Bought a few of the Bandai Star Wars figures which require a little paint and/or weathering then moving up to the AT-AT, which will need some more complicated painting and weathering, then the 144/72 X-wing two pack, much more complicated and finally their 144 Falcon before tackling the Perfect Grade. That should be a good learning experience for everything I need to know for this, plus then other models look really nice. I would much rather screw up a $50 Falcon then the $500 one.

I'm also doing some warm up models before I go at the big kit. I'm working on the 1:144 scale Bandai Falcon this week. I'm about 75% done with the upper side. Needs to have oil streaking and engine grime.

Thanks. The dish is 3D printed from shapeways and the engine grills are photoetch from Green Strawberries. I wish I had while balanced the camera first. I'll take some better pics when I'm done.

Great work Kamandi!

I will be building a PG Falcon by year's end and will be selling it for anyone who is interested..will post lots of pics when I do
