Here's how I'd rank this figure.

PORTAIT SCULPTS - 9
Without question, the face on the v2 head is perfectly Ledger Joker, and the BR head is great for it's purpose. I wouldn't give it a 10 because the hair, while accurrate to Ledger, is a bit too scene specific for me, it's very much like the street showdown, but I don't think it's a good look to sum up the hair look for most of the movie, it's a bit to close to the head on the figure, like below.

This sort of hair would be a better summed up representation of the Joker to me, but that's my preference. Execution of the hair is great, It's just not my top choice for appearance.

MASK - 9
The mask is fantastic, other than using some more wear and tear look to it, it's a great item.

CLOTHING - 8.5
For the most part, the costuming is great. I took it down for 2 reasons. First, the sport coat, which is a new design, not the exact same as the suit coat with the first Joker figure, has some minor fit issues where it wrinkles or pulls down his arms in awkward ways in some poses and requires a little play to work them out, but that'd only be about half a point. The big factor is, while HT upgraded from the first Joker and added a snap to his shirt collar, I was dissappointed that it's the only button and the rest of the shirt is still closed by velcro. For something like the opening of a shirt, I'm really against velcro, it's not very strong at this size, my Joker vest on the other figure almost won't even stick anymore it's so weak, so the half-assed-ness of this shirt miffed me a bit.

ACCESSORIES - 10
Plenty of them, all made very well.

Overall, another fine HT figure, as good any POTC figure or other TDK figure.

I know some folks chant figure of the year for it, but for me, outside of the v2 portrait, it's nothing so unique or special to elevate it to the best of the year, I'd vote for TDK suit Batman first, that one impresses me more because of the engineering and R&D it takes to execute it the way they've done. Joker's a pretty traditional figure with great attention to detail, but nothing more than the HT standard.

Cool review. I don't have this figure yet but from the pics I've seen, the only thing that even remotely bothers me about this sculpt is the scars are a little too deep and the bottom lip still isn't 100% accurate.

Cool pics, Sean.

I'm surprised that you seem so cool on the figure though, based on the review. Maybe too much hype for months in advance?

Was Indy a bigger surprise than the Joker in terms of what you were expecting?

i actually love the deep scars
they make The Joker look more horrific and gruesome
also look more tragic in a way

in fact, as the film goes into the end
Joker's scars end up looking worse
like he reopens them now and then
Nolan wanted them to look infected by the end of the movie
so these scars look pretty good

The deep scars do make him look more gruesome but they look the same to me at the end of the film (but it's been about 4 months since I've seen TDK so I could be wrong).

that adapter is a pain to get off though,i just pull the head off and sometimes it comes with the head, sometimes not, same with the peg joints on the arms.

I had a nightmare swapping the heads. The V1 Head came off easily and the neck adapter stayed on the body. The V2 head (smudged makeup) came off with the neck adapter so i needed to take the adapter out of his head but it just wudnt move. I used a hair dryer and nothign worked I even placed it on the end of a pen to try an get some leverage but you cud hear the plastic starting to snap ....then i got blue pen ink on his head!! I flipped! but it washed off. anyway. I eventally used a screwdriver to seperate the head and connector but once apart I noticed that hot toys had actually GLUED the head onto the connector!?!? That dosent make sense!...Bank robber comes with two heads so it makes no sense to glue it you wud never be able to swap them!!!

Someone at Hot Toys manfacturing played a sick joke on you..i seriously would not be surprized stuff like that can happend..especially a line worker that gets paid peanuts on the hr lol..or it may just had been a accident or its not glue and its just plastic...i dunno..that sounds unusual..i just hope mine has no problems with that or paint application.

I actually had the same problem but instead there were no traces of glue at all. What I did is a bit hard to explain through words but I applied pressure to the neck while I was carefully pulling it off in a twisting motion.

whoa.... that is so not cool.
now i'm scared if mine would have the same problem.
still waiting for it to arrive though...

Hype didn't get to me, but perhaps my POV on it was anti-hype. The figure's been boasted a lot since it's debut, mainly for the sculpt, which is fantastic, but an entire figure is not worthy of praise based just on the sculpt. It's definitely one of HT's finest sculpts, but the figure itself isn't anything beyond the norm for them, especially with Iron Mans and their military stuff. First Joker impressed me because, even with the slight issue of the suit coat making the overcoat fit a little awkwardly, it still overall was a great tailoring achievement to me having pulled off the layering they did, I've seen a lot of figures just in suits look to fat and puffy. BR Joker is just a basic suited figure and HT's really got a good streak with that going. The continued use of velcro on the clothing is a dissapointment though.

As for the velcro, there is a button on the production figure, at the collar, from the chest to the abdomen is a velcro strip though, where I'd have done it with 2-3 more buttons.

Compared to Indy, Indy was the bigger surprise because there was a bit of fear factor there, paint consistency fears, questionable material usage for the clothing, proper functionality to the accessories. Getting mine was a delightful relief. BR Joker was exactly what I expected, my delight in receiving him comes from having another cool Ledger Joker piece from one of my all time favorite movies, and also and interesting design to work with for my images, and that's why my review was cold, because I tried to keep emotion out of it. If I reviewed with my feelings taking influence, I'd probably be raving it utterly haha, but if someone's asking my opinion to assess a purchase, I feel there's a need to be more down to the technical quality of the piece, unless the ownership brings such an emotional benefit that I feel any technical thing is worth ignoring just for that good feeling, like Sideshow's Old Ben, there's some wrong things with it, but on a review to someone looking to buy, I'd promote it all day long cuz of the awesome feeling I get owning that figure.

if the swapping heads process is such a pain, why not just swap the clothes instead?

It's less a pain than that if you care about the look of the clothes on the figure. I put a fair ammount of time into futzing the costumes to look good, and to swap clothes to change heads would require doing it all over again. Swapping the heads isn't hard, but there are a few small steps you may or may not have to take in order to do it, but in the end if you do them all it's still easier than a wardrobe change.

I was never a big fan of Batman,so i honestly admit that its the hype that made me buy the Jokers,Batman is ok though.

I need the money right now so im considering to sell my Jokers again:eek:

You can't take the Tie off the V1 Joker unless you cut the elastic or remove his head. I did think about swapping the clothes but there is something weird about me and I wanted to keep the V1 clothes on the V1 body and the bank robber clothes on his body etc lol im just weird!!

If you're weird then so am I because I thought the exact same thing. I'd just rather keep the clothes on the body they came on.
