Re: Batman: Arkham City

I never got why it took so long to produce and ship a toy. I understand hot toys but this whole pending license approval thing is weird. Its batman how can you not approve of it right away.

The game comes out in fall 2011 its nowhere near around that time.

They make all of their own figures. They have multiple lines and multiple waves of figures in front of these. Unlike HT or Sideshow, these are made in order of appearance. We may have seen Black Widow last of the 4 original Iron Man 2 figures, but she is the second one to ship. Ahead of Mark IV and War Machine.

But DCD doesn't work like that. Whatever was announced first, is going to be made first. So the reason why these won't be out until Janurary is because that is the first opening in the production scheduel. ALL DCD figures make you wait this long. I've had lots of Blackest Night waves on order, nearly a year now on some of them, just like these Arkham figures.

But then you'll ask, what about the SDCC exclusive Batman? Well thats just it. It was for an exclusive. A very small run they could sneak in between other products, or they even have that slot built into the scheduel, even before its know what figure(s) will be the SDCC exclusive. But the SDCC Batman is a great teaser!

You can say that again! I love it, it's really wet my appetite for the two waves coming out in Jan/Feb!

As for the new game, my excitement keeps building and building at the minute thanks to all this new info we keep getting.
The Game Informer Arkham City Hub is a great little site too keeping our interest piqued while we wait for the game!

Re: Batman: Arkham City

Read the Gameinformer article and the game itself looks amazing; not sure if the storyline makes real sense......why would they bring dangerous vilians into a section of the city proper? From a realistic standpoint, this game is on thin ice.....

If the Arkham island is not considered secure enough, no city would pull something like this - its that lack of realism that has me a bit bummed out and reminds me this is just a game.....

I think once your engulfed in it, you'll forget that it's just a game...though the controller and pause screen probably won't help you forget either.:cuckoo:

I know that made (me) sound pathetic, but one of the true successes of the first game was how true to the Batman legend they had been - this second story is set in some whacked out, made up setting........

It kinda makes me think of No Man's Land, but trying to keep Arkham tied into it.

Re: Batman: Arkham City

I gotta say that im not really digging the whole idea of "walling off a part of the city and just dumping criminals in there". It just makes no sense. One thing I liked about Arkham Asylum is that you could sort of see how this was a working asylum. As screwed up as parts of the place may be, it still had a pragmatic functionality to it. Patients were being treated there.

You should probably wait until you've played the game and actually experienced the story before you nit-pick it. I don't think you've read the latest news about the story, as it addresses your concerns.

The recently revealed Easter Egg in AA shows that Quincy Sharp has had this plan for Arkham City for a while. They've said that Hugo Strange is running the City, who we know is no good. Obviously, Sharp has ulterior motives.

I think you're misunderstanding what Arkham Asylum is. It's not a place where they cure mental illness, there are no "patients". Arkham Asylum is where they send mentally deranged people who commit murder, it's where they send the worst of the worst. No one is cured in Arkham Asylum. They don't "treat patients".

Further, they're not building a prison inside the city. They've walled off part of the city and put mercenaries along the wall, presumably to hold all the Arkham inmates until a new facility is built.

Re: Batman: Arkham City

They're letting the inmates go wild in there. I don't think they are going to be able to round them up to put them in a new facility. But like you said, Sharp has ulterior motives, and I think some of those were hinted at in the last game as well.

Since we know Sharp is the one who left the "Spirit of Arkham" stuff we know he got a kick out of hurting (And I think killing but I can't remember) patients. I think he has no problem with letting them kill each other inside those walls. And I wouldn't be surprised if halfway through the game we run into a group of sport hunters who paid for the chance to hunt inmates.

Re: Batman: Arkham City

And fair point, I will wait to judge the game's story when I play it. Its a day one purchase

The ONE issue I had with the first game was the collector set itself: for $100 it was a huge disappointment. I hope they go a different route for a collector set next time - I'd rather have extra playable characters than a craptastic batarang made of the cheapest plastic out there

The local Wal-Mart has had at least 5 CEs for each system sitting behind the glass for a year, still at $99.99.

And they're selling the GOTY edition for $49.99 :slap

Re: Batman: Arkham City

I forget which store, but I saw the CE selling for $50........I ended up trading my friend for his standard edition cause I couldnt deal with the huge packaging anymore....

Obviously they are doing something in there, or else there would be no medical or treatment facilities. They wouldnt even bother with doctor's or counselors. Even if thier only purpose is to sedate these people, that is completely lost with this plan.

Im not sure how its better to take these dangerous criminal masterminds out of these tiny cells where they can be controlled and monitored, and instead let them run loose in a closed off section of city with countless resources at thier disposal. Just seems like you are begging for massive gang violence and murders. Hell, being dropped into a place like that would force even the most sane of inmates to become a murderer just to survive.

And even if that somehow makes sense to people, why not just remove the staff from Arkham and let them run loose there? A secluded island is easier to prevent escape from than a place in the middle of the city. Cheaper too as you are using a prison that already exists.

If the plan is to relocate the prisoners while Arkham is restored, all a criminal mastermind would have to do is find a place to hide away somewhere while the inmates are rounded up again. With all the violence going on, there would be no way to account for all the prisoners and eventually the guards would just assume that the criminal had been killed. Once the place is open again the criminal can just stroll out into the city.

Re: Batman: Arkham City

It is a dumb idea, and I think it's going to be presented as an extremely dumb idea that Batman and Gordon are against in the game.

At the same time, sometimes you just have to accept things at face value and not try to apply logic or reason to a pretty cool premise. It is just a video game after all. So long as it isn't going so far as to ruin some part of the Batman mythos or something.

Re: Batman: Arkham City

I'm willing to assume that the developers and writers working on Batman: AC are at least aware of the outlandishness of having Arkham in Gotham. Maybe it'll make more sense once we can actually play the game and fully grasp the story.

:goodpost: yup. I'll leave it up to them and hope they can strike gold twice.

You're missing the whole plot point that Mayor Sharp instituted this plan. It's a diabolical plot, he put Hugo Strange in charge of this. It's obvious it's not going to work, it's obvious it's a bad idea. Sharp took advantage of the situation in the first game and it catapulted him to the mayor's office, he was the one who left the ghastly clues in the first game. He's not a good dude.
