I skipped Origins solely on the fact it wasn't Kevin Conroy... and the fat man suit.

A wise choice. It has piss poor writing, terrible animation and buggin as hell.
And the voice actor for Batman is just AARRRRGH! Characterless Bale impersonator.

It was definitely buggy, but I disagree with everything else you said; in fact, I think it had the potential to be the best in the series, if they'd just polished it more. The writing was excellent, and Craig's Batman carried that forced authority of a younger man, while also seeming to indicate that he could grow into Conroy's Batman.

Why the drastic redesign here?

You are 100% right beyond a shred of doubt.

The story is the better of the three imo, if only the game was overall more polished....

And Craig Smith has to be the rightful substitute for Conroy, there were times when he straight up sounded like him.
