Sadly the traits go both ways.

And more off topic rant about drm... bad drm implementation does hurt games. Why would people buy your game if the pirated version is actually less restricted than a purchased game? I wonder.

No. Marketing tactics do not push people to piracy.
Greed, selfishness and a bad attitude push people to piracy.

Unavailability is what drives me to piracy. Most of the anime I watched when I was younger I had to pirate because I could not get it legally, or for example now. The Evangelion movies take 3 years to release in the UK. (What the hell is up with that btw!???)

Look, I don't want to get into a lengthy debate about piracy, but the bottom line is that it's illegal and unethical.

I work in a business that relies on digital sales, and every time someone pirates something it's me that loses out too. Not just "the company" as I'm sure most people see it.

You can come up with as much rational thinking for it as you see fit, but there's no justification for stealing.

I agree. I'm not saying I'm right, I'm saying its a reason.

But if someone doesn't have any option but to pirate, then it's that companies fault imo.

Like say Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. If I want it I'm gonna have it. It is impossible to buy that legally, how would you suggest I buy it. Travel to Japan buy a JPN Nintendo and travel back?

^ See, no offence, but that's justifying your crime. It doesn't change the fact that it's still theft.

I can understand your frustration at not being able to get what you want as it's unavailable, but ethically the right thing to do would be just wait and if it never becomes available then so be it.

Look, I'm not trying to be judgy. It just cheeses me off when people pirate and think nothing of it, having no care or even knowledge about people (like me) who lose out because of it. I guess it's just much too easy for people to take something nowadays and have no conscience about what they're doing.

That's why you must offer the path of least resistance between your product and your customers. Sadly, it's a lesson the gaming industry is slow to learn from.

Everyone has downloaded something for "free" at one point in time. EVERYONE. I don't pirate games, I buy them from Steam. But, I won't get on a high horse. In fact, no one has the right to :lol.

:lol Agreed.

I for certain never have for a game.....cause I don't really know how lol. So I just stick with my xbox and wait for a game to hit rock bottom for me to try and play it. :lol

I remember when I was a kid, Game never used to seal their games. So I would buy a game complete it in under a month then swap it for another. I did that on repeat for a very long time, till I found a game worth keeping lol. (I repeat I was a kid)

I wonder your opinion on the secondary market. It's not theft but the people behind it see nothing of the profits

I remember as a kid being able to rent PS1 games from blockbuster and burning copies on the pc. Good old chipped days [emoji38]

We pirate things because we worked our ***** off to get these money and wouldn't want to spend them of worthless crap.
Why is making people pay for product they may not like is legal?

The bottom line is that modern legal system is hypocritical and broken to favor those who has big pockets.

I work in a business that relies on digital sales, and every time someone pirates something it's me that loses out too.
Then stop working on such companies, simple as that.
There's no reason for you to complain about the situation if you're a part of it.
