We got Entourage and Ant-Man for every movie at my theater. That Ant-Man trailer does not hold up well after 8 viewings.

Yea, that didn't get a laugh in any of the showings. Granted Mad Max and Ex Machina were older crowds but I saw Age of Ultron twice and even those big crowds didn't seem too into it. Making me think, combined with no Ultron origin from Pym, they probably should have just intro'd him in an Avengers like Vision and Witch. Kinda getting the feeling it may not do so well, but they have to have a mediocre movie once in a while.

Wait, on second thought, that is prolly true.

What trailer does work after that many viewings, though? Maybe the Back to the Future teaser?

Actually, I kinda want to see Entourage now. :lol I watched the whole series but was never a die hard fan and figured I'd wait for it to just be on HBO, but I may end up going now that I keep seeing that one.

I'm also sick of that San Adreas trailer.

When I saw Avengers 2 and Mad Max recently, none of the attached trailers looked or felt like "real movies", especially Ant-Man and San Andreas.

Interesting. I saw both of them twice, though "meh," and won't lose sleep if I never see the nu-Trilogy at all.

Yeah well at least you can still look forward to Singer trying to follow Favreau's lead with the whole X-Men thing. :monkey3

On another note I watched Chef last night. Fun little flick but what a random IM2 reunion. Favreaur, ScarJo, RDJ.

The Jurassic Park, Terminator: Genisys, and Force Awakens trailers try to play with my nostalgic emotions with similar imagery, music, and feels.

It doesn't work.

LOL Yeah, I enjoyed Chef. I like Favreau as a filmmaker, and thought he would do a good job with Iron Man after seeing Zathura years back.

He stated a few years back that Marvel said he could choose between kicking off the MCU with either Iron Man or Captain America and IM was more appealing to him. Funny to try and imagine how a Jon Favreau Captain America might have looked, who he would have cast, and whether it would have even paved the way for any semblance of the current MCU if he did.

Agreed on all counts. The one that I admit did get me a little bit on first viewing was seeing Han and Chewy, but that was the only thing about the Star Wars trailers that did that for me. Maybe I'm nostalgia'd out at this point or something, I don't know. But I think I'm coming to the realization that things in the past are truly never going to come back to life in the way that did for us as kids, and so I'm not looking to be wooed by that kind of approach, and am not primed to respond to it.

The best we can hope for is to have someone approach somewhat familiar material in a thoughtful, creative, and effective way. Like Fury Road did, for example. An example on the other side of the coin, for me, is the new Muppets stuff. The first movie that came out a couple years back had its heart in the right place--the filmmakers clearly loved the original stuff and wanted to do it justice--but the film missed the mark of capturing the spirit of the original. I couldn't make it through the sequel, and have no interest at all in the new TV show. It won't succeed for me unless they cut the strings that are forcing them to attempt to mimic the originals as best they can. The glimpse of a puppet show we saw at the end of Forgetting Sarah Marshall was a better way to go IMO.

I think in the case of JP and Genysis, based on the trailers, they aren't really trying to do this. Star Wars is more an open question to me, but the fact that the commercials don't connect to me on a nostalgic level isn't a bad thing IMO.

I think JW is going to be the next pleasant surprise of the summer. We'll see. Like Genisys they seem to be taking the story in kind of a "crazy" direction what with trained Raptors and a made up super dinosaur. But unlike Terminator I feel like it will be "good crazy."

Just looks to me like more of the same. Felt like they tried to give us a "super" dinosaur in Jurassic Park 3, but admittedly, I only saw that movie once and don't remember much. Trained raptors is an interesting idea I guess, but that only goes so far. I wouldn't be surprised if, like GOTG, the movie's success or failure is largely a function of Pratt and his character.

I felt the same way.

It's interesting that Favreau is still listed as an Executive Producer in all the Marvel movies that have Iron Man in it (i.e. Iron Man 1-3 and both Avengers), which tells me that he is credited in having a big role in defining the Iron Man character. That also tells me that Feige and the other Marvel people probably credit him with helping establish the tone of the Marvel universe. I think his contribution to the MU movies has been very important and essential in its success.

I think he would have done a great Cap movie, probably closer in tone with the Winter Soldier with the whole espionage angle.
