Well I think it works a different way with Bats and Superman. DC can't exist without either of them, really. Any suggestion they may die has no real weight because it's obvious they'll be coming back.

But writers have in the past had problems with Superman because of his power. This is why Byrne de-powered him post-Crisis, and why the Animated Series Superman is far weaker than he has been in other incarnations. But I like the idea that he is the ultimate super power out there. Because storylines have to be more creative and interesting than simply "can he punch this guy to death before he gets punched to death?"

I never understood that. Dragon Ball Z did the opposite by making Goku stronger in every saga, and that never hurt the show or the character. Sure, the formula was repetitive at times, but it was still interesting because there's always a threat of a new stronger villain no matter how strong Goku had become. I don't see why they can't do the same with Superman.

You mean as main characters? Because both of them can die.

See that's one of the things that really turned me off to DBZ even when it first came on in the U.S. That aspect of Dragonball Z was so damn repetitive and uninteresting dramatically. But of course, it appeals to kids who just want more and more outrageous battles.

Even to me as a kid it was repetitive uninteresting, but that's because they stretched fights that you could read in 3 minutes or less in the manga into 3 ****ing episodes in the anime.
