Welp...just got home from seeing it and....
It wasn't bad, but it could've been a lot better. (a few minor spoilers ahead)
Affleck was okay, still enjoy Cavill, wanted more Godot. HATED Eisenberg...he was the "Ruby Rhod" "Jar Jar" of this movie...it was cringe-inducing every time he appeared on screen. Too many confusing dream sequences that felt more like an excuse to hawk future movies. I was sorry Godot didn't have more to do here...and one of her scenes (the sitting in front of the computer pushing buttons to run what looked like character test footage for future movies) was pointless and could have easily been chopped.
If the movie could've used one thing, it was better editing...it just needed to be tightened up. The whole third act looked sloppy...the cheesy "Doomsday" effects didn't help.
The cast was good, the production handsome. Even though I don't care for him in most of his movies, Affleck managed to establish a solid take on the character here. The resolution to the big fight actually worked well, primarily due to his efforts. His fighting style for Batman was much more visceral and intense...after watching his rescue of Martha Kent, having him tossed around it that Doomsday CGI soup was a bit of a downer.
I thought Synder did okay with this...it's got his style stamped all over it, but it also seems like the added content about other characters felt shoehorned in...wonder if it was more studio-mandated instead of creative?
Could've been shorter and more focused, but it wasn't the **** fest most of the lockstep critics over at RT are saying it is. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out...the theater I was at wasn't even half full (on it's first Saturday night)...it's too intense for little kids, it's not really a date movie so...after the comic fan audience has had their look...I'd expect a big, quick drop-off. Could be wrong...time will tell.
I'll probably check it out one more time on the big screen if it's still there in a few weeks....
