I wonder what Bale's Batman/Bruce Wayne would have been like if his character was written differently and played as an obsessive nutjob that loves fighting criminals as opposed to the reserved, idealogy spewing Shakespearean Batman whose morals stem from his childhood friend and preachy daddy. He certainly has that intensity and madness to him in American Psycho.

I remember when he was first announced as being cast, I had this unhinged, schizophrenic Batman in mind. I was surprised how "normal" and subdued he ended up being after seeing what he's capable of in other movies.

Probably close to Ben Affleck's Batman....or Big Daddy from Kick Ass.

I always kind of disliked Bale's Bruce Wayne character. When I find out he would quit being Batman and become a recluse for 8 years during his prime because his ugly non-girlfriend got blown up and there was no more organized crime to fight with marked bills, yeah... the was the final straw. :lol

Baleman didn’t retire because of her death, he literally goes back to being Batman and saving people in the same movie. In TDKR he retires because after the Dent act the streets are pretty much safe, Baleman was longer needed.

I think Rachel's death definitely played a role because he never moved on....that and he was wanted for murder.

I still think Dark Knight Rises should have gone in the opposite direction and the cops should have been searching for him kind of like in year one. His job would have doubly hard with Grayson and the cops just missing him.

dont forget the fast and furious debate before too lol

I'm pretty sure Bruce retiring had nothing to do with her death, the dent act is why he retired, and then he had the fusion reactor built for Gotham but once he realized it was dangerous to have, he put it on ice, and then he became a recluse because he had nothing left to offer Gotham as Bruce or Batman.

Basically Rachael's death plays a part in him becoming a recluse, but not retiring as Batman, once Bruce finds out that Batman is needed again you can see how excited he gets to suit up again.

Which explains why Bruce says to Gordon in the Hospital,"The Batman wasn't needed anymore. We won." The reality is, he had to stopped fighting crime because he had to be viewed as a criminal in order to protect the Dent Act.

Also, when Gordon said "we will hunt him because he can take it" it doesn't mean Batman won't or can't retire. In the Hospital scene Gordon seemed confused that Batman retired since he said "we were in this together. . . and then you were gone" because he misunderstood what Batman told him at the end of TDK, "you will hunt me. . .because that needs to happen". Batman meant to chase him that night so he can be viewed as a criminal, not for Batman to keep fighting crime as a wanted murderer. Otherwise, Batman helping capture any remaining criminals will bring suspicion to the public and cops that Gordon framed Batman, which could lead to demise of the Dent Act.

As it is I already had a hard time accepting Batman's retirement over Jason's death in Miller's Return, no way in hell did I accept it in Rises over nonsensical reasons.

Crime is down my ass.

As long as humans exist kids will continue to be raped and mutilated, adults will continue to murder other adults and the theft of money, goods and corruption will remain.

Batman no longer needed my ass, no such thing.

Gene Roddenbury and his peaceful future is a joke.

Bale Batman is old news, who cares. We had these circular discussions 4 years ago ad nauseum.

When are they going to start filming The Batman? That's all I care about. It better be a story that takes place before BvS and this Justice League crap. All I want is more solo Batman movies now that it's been revealed that Batman's foundation with Superman and meta humans sucks ass.

But Batman never stopped any child rapist or murderers in Batman Begins and TDK, just organized crime, which was the root of corruption in Nolan's Gotham. Ultimately he wanted to be a symbol and inspire people, which he did when Dent was going to be his successor and later John Blake :dunno

Yea, you can tell Nolan had to switch up some things with Heath dying and not being able to use Joker or even reference him for that matter.
