I still can't get over the fact that Superman actively and deliberately tried to punch Batman's head off. Man, how do you reconcile that.

I've been pretty tough on this film, but just to play devil's advocate, we don't know what kind of power Sups put into that punch, so maybe he didn't use his full power, just like when he pushed Batman away in the beginning of the fight. If he went at Bats without holding back, he must have known that he was weaker because of the effects of the kryptonite in his system, so when Batman blocked the punch, he was still surprised but mainly because he realized at that moment how weak he had become , not because he couldn't kill Batman with a single punch.
It was like they had this "awesome" image in their minds to show on screen but could not be bothered to actually come up with a plausible in-character reason to justify it.

It is an awesome shot. I remember the first time I saw it I was blown away. The fear in Superman's eyes and Batman's little smug face is great.

Is that your way of complimenting those elements or dismissing Zack as a "can only make a decent trailer" guy? I can't tell.
And Clown Prince, yes, you pretty much have to pretend (since the movie in no way, shape, or form establishes it on film) that Supes was going to lightly punch Batman even though he had a look of murderous rage on his face and has never lightly punched anything in his life. Since I enjoyed the film I will indeed pretend that even though I know damn straight that it isn't what is being conveyed.

Actually it kind of seemed like he had already tried to murder Batman by shoving him through several brick buildings. Thanks for the reminder.

Glad I have different (or fewer? or lower?) expectations to the haters. I can enjoy BvS while they're ******** and whining!

Didn't Sups get hit with the gas right before he went for the kill...I mean...punch? I mean, it's not like he acted unaffected by the gas (did he?), what more do you need? Sups saying, " Oh man, I feel weak now...you got that audience, are we cool? Ok"
And as far as looking angry, well he's in a fight so how else should he look?

I've got to give a pass to Superman for the punch. It was great trailer-fare, which as Khev correctly points out, is Snyder's forte. Easily excusable. Unfortunately, it is one of the very few elements in this movie that can be excused.

If he felt weak then he shouldn't have been shocked by Bruce blocking his punch. He would have just been all "stupid kryptonite, let me see if I can hit this human with my other hand instead" rather than "WTF??? My murder was thwarted??? HOW??"
