Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

It was 1966 and everyone loved the Bat West, he couldn't be beat. They loved him so much that they lined up at his autograph booths just to see him in his bat garb.

Then 1989 came around and West went down as some sort of campy, Bat-clown. Keaton was superior with his angsty grim dark Batman because "dark is cool".

Finally, after years of praise and "man, why didn't Keaton come back for #3 or Batman Beyond" nerd *****ing, 2005 rolled around and people decreed that he was the worst Batman and that he was never any good. The superior Batman? Christian Bale, the one true Batman. He put some meat on his bones and three on a suit that let him idly look to the left and right and people blew their loads into theater seats everywhere. "So great" they said. "I'll buy 2 more Hot Toys DX figures that I already have", they said.

Enter 2014-2016, "Bale was always terrible, what a ****** Batman", "dat Affleck tho!!!! Sheeeeet he DA best".

Same thing happened with Jack Nicholson. For 30 years he reined supreme as THE Joker. Critically and from the fan base perspective, everyone seemed to love him. Then Heath Ledger came around and he was lauded for his portrayal of the character while Nicholson (who was supposedly "untoppable") was proclaimed as "teh worst Joker ever".

I can't wait to see what the next decade brings! Maybe then we'll finally get a decent Batman, eh?

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

:lol I don't get the hate for Batman himself. I think he's rocked in virtually every movie short of TDKR and B&R which I chalk up to writing since both of those guys are immensely talented.

But it's not hard to understand the hate that the Burton stuff gets in retrospect because of the way they make him a murderer. I also love BB and TDK but feel that Nolan got too far away from his own creation by the time TDKR rolled around. I think unfortunately a lot of people will judge the series for it's final contribution rather than it's best, which is why Nolan takes heat now for TDKR being subpar and Burton gets **** for Returns the more time goes on.

As a kid the first Batman I really remember being cast from a standpoint of being old enough to understand that actors are important to the big picture was Clooney. And I actually watched E.R. and thought he'd be fantastic. Boy, was I wrong.

But contrarily I will say that Affleck is the first one to concern me when it comes to playing Bruce Wayne. So maybe I'll be wrong again?

Anyway, it's all too early for this kinda talk anyway since we aren't even getting a Batman movie, it's a Superman sequel... right?

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

Good point.

I think the only times I've actually disliked B-Man was B&R in 97' and TDKR in 2012. Other than that? He's ranged from "good" to "pretty cool guy".

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

T2 - what? he doesn't kill anyone? That's crap! What a wuss.

Batman 89/Returns - What? He kills people? That's crap! Needs to be friendlier.

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

One is machine built to murder people.

The other is a guy that was so affected by murder he vows to never let it happen on his watch.

I called Kara out on that one time and he simply shrugged it off.

HE JUST SHRUGGED IT OFF.

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

I like both Keaton and Bale.

Bale is a great Bruce Wayne, Keaton is a great Batman. They are both good in their respective "other halves" of the character, but they are at their best when it's Bale Wayne and Keaton Batman.

In conclusion;

Bale and Keaton need to mate.

THEN, we will get our perfect Batman.

Or Ben Affleck might give it to us.

Re: Batman vs. Superman (2016)

A comment I read on io9, that I loved, was someone who said "Man of Steel isn't Superman: Year One, it's Superman: Day One." It's true, too. At best, this is Superman's first week on the job. That's why I think the movie's so, shall we say, "not fun," at times. It's a journey of self-discovery, and it's not a Superman movie; it's the story of how Clark Kent became Superman. I think the whole point of that film was that he wasn't the Superman we know. That's where the realism comes into play. I think we'll get the big, blue boyscout, but, unlike the books, I think the point they're trying to make is that he's got to grow into that character; he can't just be born that way I think that's where Zod's death comes into play. He's seen firsthand how killing feels, and he never wants to do it again; we see how that crippled him, emotionally, even though he was perfectly justified, considering the situation. With that in mind, I'm hoping and praying that Snyder has the vision to see that through, and to use that in this story. To me, Zod's death is the perfect in for Batman, which is why I'm against the folks who say that he's just there to make more money.

The circumstances of Zod's death don't matter; all that would matter, to someone as morally stagnant as Batman, is that, with the right amount of pressure applied, Superman is capable of taking life, and that makes him one hundred times more dangerous in Batman's eyes. With that in mind, we start to see that Superman that we know at the end of Man of Steel; Clark's wearing his glasses and working at the Planet, and Superman's on his way to becoming the hero that we all know. Man of Steel isn't the whole story, it's just Act One.

Congratulations, you understood the film. :lol

I believe Jokes and Bats thoroughly enjoys the Walking Dead.

They once had a Daryl avatar if I remember correctly.

Regarding TDKR I think Nolan got caught between the studio wanting a batman film and him wanting to make a bruce wayne film. Nolan always explicitly said 'it's about finishing BRUCE's story' and even BB was mostly just about Bruce. I think that's a point were Nolan wasn't in touch with the fan base and tried to somehow compensate that by a bunch of massive set pieces.

I think it's actually a positive that Nolan's take was almost just a Bruce Wayne trilogy in which Batman was a supporting character, because it makes it all the more easy for Snyder to differentiate from him. That's why I think it's the BEST move to reboot Batman within a film that's not his, we can now get a mysterious threatening and external take on Batman, contrary to Nolan's extremely internal, psychological Bruce-Wayne POV.

My only REAL concern is the voice. What are they gonna do with Ben's voice!? He's like the opposite of Conroy.:lol
