I don't think Keaton will play Beetlejuice at 72 the same way he played it at 35.

There's definitely a lack of energy from him in the trailer, but they might be saving the good stuff.

Then again, you see that energy and devilish attitude in the original trailer.

He just looks tired in the new one. He said in an interview with GQ, "The approach is can I still do it. The cast is good and what's going on in the story is solid. Yeah, I got there again, but I think for some of it, it was a little bit of oof, oh boy...I think I'll get out. I'll escape because it's (the film) so good."

It sounds like he had a difficult time.

He looks tired and bored. He'll play Beetlejuice like Keaton playing Batman playing Beetlejuice.

"You want some of this?" with that same glum expression. That's NOT Beetlejuice, whether its Keaton playing him or not.

The thing is - its been nearly four decades its never gonna be the same and expecting that is insanity.... but so is the studios' decision to only follow up cult-classics decades after the fact.
I cannot think of even one of these ancient-reboots that feels just the same as when we last left [in live action at least - some animated reboots have been awesome - looking at you Samurai Jack]
To give a perhaps odd comparison - Hocus Pocus 2, the film overall is pretty meh and the plot is dogshite - but by god the 3 witches actresses absolutely give it their all and it comes pretty close to their original energy and dynamic.... but its been 3 decades - you can't ignore that and time will show its hand, and all I could think watching it was - "this isn't terrible and the witches are killing it - but god I wish they made this movie even 10 years ago, its been too long"
I suspect it will be the case here.
Keaton loves Beetlejuice, its one of his favourite performances ever and one he has wanted to do for years and I think he will give it his all.... but the problem is that it will be the all of a 72 year old Keaton instead of a younger and more energetic Keaton - the spirit no doubt it willing but the flesh may not be up to the task.

The 80’s being the 80’s I assume young Keaton was hopped up on some kind of uppers* when he played Beetlejuice. A method he probably doesn’t subscribe to anymore.

*I have no idea if this is true. Pure speculation on my part

I feel like Fury Road and Maverick were able to capture what was great about the originals and expand on them. Very rare though....
I have my doubts, but I really hope Keaton is able to pull this off.

It's a bad sign when the makeup and hair department can't get the hair right, unless Burton wanted to change it.. 🙃

Beetlejuice's hair now looks like Tim Burton's hair. 😅

I feel like folks have already made up their mind about this sequel around here. Which is totally fine. I get it. I understand the reasons why.

And I'd normally join you on that opinion. But for me, I'm willing to just let my guard down and geek out about it.

Something I rarely do these days when it comes to current films of today. If it's a flop, and I hate it - or even if it's a successful and I personally end up hating it - I'll just have to suck it up and get over it.

I am optimistic about it. Hell, excited, even. I'm not sure why.

Beetlejuice IS Burton.
I remember being saddened seeing Tim Burton on the WB lot in the 90s driving the same generic black Range Rover as every off-the-shelf senior VP.

I expected - I dunno - some cool, vintage or at least interesting car. Like what Seinfeld would choose for Burton if he was on Comedians in Cars.

It's interesting how he got work on the absolutely brilliant Deadwood series. As per usual, he was amazing on screen. But yeah.. Oof.
Interestingly, he was caught due to leads gained in the Paul Reubens investigation. Everything full circle back to Tim Burton (Reubens was the one who gave Burton his big break).:lol

I've always been under the impression there are loads of good people that rub shoulders with very bad people in the industry. Figuring out which is which becomes the tricky part.

I'm not a fan of "Guilty by association", myself.
