My picks are easy this year:

Best - Star Trek
Worst - GI Joe

I can't pick a 'best' - impossible! I still haven't seen Hurt Locker or Moon

I can pick a worst though, at least from the movies I saw during the year - G.I. JOE Rise of Cobra :sick

Oooh, Either of those movies could easily be my 'best of 2009', but I haven't seen all the movies I wanted this year. That's what I'll be using my holiday leisure time for.

You're in for a treat!

never seen the Hurt Locker. Is it really that good?
Damn good.

Both were favorites of mine this year!

Both come out on Blu-Ray/DVD next month. Everyone needs to see these movies, it's a damn shame neither saw wide release.

The Dark Knight-Best

Friday the Thirteenth-meh, pretty good

New Moon- ok, 'Jacob' can you please keep your shirt on, there ARE dudes in the audience who were forced to watch this movie with their two nieces.

Gamer-pretty cool

Worst- TBA

My best has to be split between District 9 and Inglorious Basterds its to close to call

As for worst i seem to have avoided all the obvious ones so i can honestly say i have not yet touch wood seen a film i would merit as a bad 2009 movie

Best so far - not sure, but Watchmen and Salvation are up there (haven't seen Star Trek)

Worst so far - Harry Potter Half Blood Prince and G.I. Joe

WTF.

Salvation definitely makes my worse list and Harry Potter makes my best list...not the worst or the best of the year but they are on their respective lists.

Salvation was one that took 2 times (theater - BD) to appreciate. I just got a new Pio TV and surround, which makes PQ and AQ stand out to the extreme. Even TF2 is great on reference quality BD.

With Harry Potter, I would be more than happy to forget that the movie ever existed. IMO, the worst adaptation of the series to date. They not only cut the book to shreds, but also decided to write things into the script that never existed. Also, the series took a painfully obvious turn into the tween romance film genre. The only redeeming quallity was the flamboyant Gambone finally meeting his demise (at least for the time being).

This past weekend, when out shopping, I passed the trailer of HBP playing above the BD display for promotion. After watching it, I was thrilled to have already forgotten most of it.

This is where we will have to disagree because no amount of amazing PQ or AQ will make a good movie out of Salvation, just cannot happen.

Agree about Harry Potter 6! I actually even forgot that I had ever seen that movie! And what really sucks is I'm practically forced to buy it on DVD because we have all the others and I need a complete set for my son to watch when he's older (and we have all the books). I'm gonna wait until it's in the bargain bin though.

At least HP had a story, even if It was a hacked version of the book it made a lot more sense than that piece of crap Salvation.

I hope McG dies in a fire.

I hate that. I do the same thing. I hated The Final Destination but have to get it to finish the set.

Right on!!!

I made the decision, especially with the extended movies all being released on the Ultimate BD's, to just wait for the complete Ultimate Super Fantastic Limited Collectors Edition set with all the movies. I've got all the Standard DVD's up to OOTP and, after this latest debacle, will not double dip anymore. Yes, I will eventually own HBP, but for the sake of completion, not wanting it.

I guess it's all about expectations. I didn't have any going into Salvation and was pleasantly surprised. However, with HP and with everyone who has read the books, there's a pre-built in expectation. You may think Salvation is terrible, but at least it didn't screw up a great novel. If there was no book i.e. no reference material - I probably would have enjoyed the movie. I know cuts have to be made and that there has been a steady progression of degrading quality of the films, but I found the resemblance of HBP to the book abysmally lacking. The series, slowly but surely, seems to have turned into a money grab. Everyone is vested, so appeasing the audience isn't as important anymore. Frankly, I don't think JK even cares what goes on the screen or even takes part in the adaptation.
