I will definitely come to you guys and seek instruction and help on that if/when I get to that point since you guys are the experts, but it sounds like securing them together wouldn't be too difficult a task. The only con for the display when I was thinking it up would be that you can't see it from the sides, only the front, as opposed to having it on an open surface w/ an acrylic or glass tank over it to keep out dust. With the PAX, you can only display it from the side but you could still see a better angle due to the amount of free space. I think it would be almost a tight fit via the BESTAs.

Ok, that wouldn't work because of having two tall units behind the smaller unit means there would be the line down the middle where the two units join.
Hmmm...

Would the Tumbler fit on the 40cm deep unit top?
Two very deep cubes at the bottom, the Tumbler ontop with two cubes behind it and the top two cubes.

I was thinking you needed the extra depth but that wouldn't work because if the center piece.

Oh, are you talking about the vertical split? Besta is only 15" deep which isn't enough for the Tumbler, which itself is about 18" from wheel to wheel if I recall.

Exactly. Was an awesome idea until I mentally pictured it and it didn't work :lol

Could cut away part of the central split i suppose but it's a hollow structure.

Ok, I got really confused there, sorry LOL

The Tumbler is roughly 19"-20" wide and 28"-29" long, so with two 1x1 BESTA units back-to-front, it should fit if you don't install that back flap piece (I'm not sure if the 1x1 has it but the 3x1 has a long flap piece as the "back"), probably would be that the front unit w/o the back flap might not be as stable, hence I was wondering if securing somehow to the back unit would would help that, or the 1x2 extension piece has that middle divider that could also help stabilize. It would, in essence, look like the L tetris piece, rotate it 90 degrees in the z-axis so it's 3d and that would be how the display would be facing you forward, and then put a 2nd one next to it. Sorry for not using the right technical terminology haha. Would that not work?

Hey guys. That's actually what I did with my tumblers. Tall besta in back, short one in front with no back installed. Very solid. Yes, there is a minor seam line where the bestas meet, but I am not bothered by it. Since it is on the bottom, you really have to get down to see the seams, since the tumbler itself covers the bottom seam. I'll take a picture when I get a moment.

Also, they make glass tops for the bestas, so I put one on the part that sticks out, and it looks awesome!

And he never came back.... LOL :crying

Quick question, One of the back flaps of my 3x1 BESTA isn't flat, like it still bends at the middle and so there's a small gap between it and the shelves along the middle. Does IKEA accept exchanges on those? Or is there a fix for it? I just thought putting something in the back to prop it back forward and then taping it or securing it there somehow so it doesn't bend back again.

Oh ok, haha. The first 3x1 I had didn't have that problem, seemed to stay straight, but it's not really a big issue since it looks to be an easy fix if anything.

You can always put a few nails through the back into the shelf once you've decided on final shelf position.

I really very dislike the Tombo doors. I have9 of them. I don't want them anymore but don't really know what to do with them. I feel like the besta look (for me) is getting old.

Wait a few more months, then post to Craigslist at double the retail price. That will still be cheaper than having custom doors made for those looking. ;)

Sorry about that. Just got home from work a little while ago. Please excuse the mess. I don't usually keep anything on the glass, but i'm in the middle of rotating a bunch of pieces out. But at least you get a bit of flavor of what it can look like. Lights not installed yet.

Very nice! That's exactly what I had envisioned. I have white BESTAs so I may give the white mirrored top a try.
