The future is looking much brighter

Those six words are really the most important in BC's message, but the whole post was an object lesson in how to communicate. Brilliant stuff, and it's why I've always said you can trust BC. I hope we never again hear people flinging baseless accusations at them because they haven't replied fast enough about a missing part.

Amy... is now going to acquire an interesting second life as a sought after figure! She's never going to pay any bills for BC but I sincerely hope she deflects the fire hose and they at least break even. From being seen as a colossal disaster suddenly all those accessories look pretty desirable and the new head will make it a passably good figure of a companion, bringing to precisely one the number of high end figures of Doctor Who companions. It's no masterpiece, but come August you'll have a figure that looks like Amy. That's going to make a lot of fans think twice about buying it (but in a good way) and you never know, maybe one day this'll be to the BC line what Leela was to the Denys Fisher line.

As for that original rooted hair head... who's going to be the first to put up a video of that head being destroyed in an imaginative way?

Personally - and I've no knowledge, it's just a guess - I wonder if the vendors in the Chinese factory smoked something weird and then decided to 'improve' Amy's paint job. Wouldn't be the first time.

I'll be passing on 4, but I can't wait for Sherlock and 1. It would also be great to have a little bit of notice on Tennant so I can get funds in place if he's any earlier than September.

I agree with you my friend. BCS are proving themselves a great company. And the timing issues will sort themselves out as their supply chain becomes cemented and regular.

If only other companies like Enterbay, Hot Toys and even Sideshow could follow their example with such honesty and sincerity and try to make ammends to their loyal customers when things go wrong. Unfortunately dealing with customer service with any of those companies, even Sideshow NOW, is becoming an exercise in futility.

Some of these reactions are ridiculous. I certainly appreciate that BG have come here and admitted they made a less than ideal figure. That's great. But it doesn't make them "a great company." I hope they will become a great company and I will do what I reasonably can to support them in that. However, a great company doesn't put out what they know is a poor figure and charge $240 for it. A great company would never release a figure with a paint job or sculpt or clothes like that Amy Pond - and do so about a year late. A great company wouldn't promise us 4 or 5 more figures this year, which they know will not happen.

Let's encourage them and stand by them, but I do not think this is the time for congratulating them. They've just laid a stinker. Even that rooted head is the same sculpt and presumably the same paint job as you see in all of those Tonner-esque pictures.

IMO.

I can't help but think you're username is sarcastic. :lol

Seriously though, I land somewhere in the middle. I don't think those things make them a non-great company. Great companies screw up. Quite often. I think they handled this very well though, and that makes a lot of difference. It doesn't cure all ills, of course. I do think the reality is they've put out a fairly mediocre product. Depending on how the sculpted hair head turns out, I think Amy could move up some notches quality-wise. But it's never going to be 100% perfect. Or possibly even 75%.

The idea that this figure shouldn't have been released seems weird to me, though. Or that releasing her as-is is a bad thing. They've done what they can, and we know some of the reasons the figure is a bit blah and late was out of their hands.

So, I think you're point isn't a bad one... but I don't think you're saying anything revelatory either. I think most people have freely spoken their minds about their disappointments. I don't think people are saying it's all better, they just admire the way BCS has handled it.

When I post my thoughts about BC, I find myself feeling like it is! ;)

I don't mean to be mean, honestly. I believe in these guys. I want them to do well. I understand that they're a new company and I hope they improve, but they have made a LOT of mistakes at this point. The series of flowing and blushing congratulations posted on this page almost feel like parody in light of their recent history. Admitting you've done something wrong is not as good as simply doing something right.

That's all.....

Oh, I know. I was definitely just joking. I thought your comment was fair. Perhaps a tad harsher than my own point of view, but understandable.

I like how the person earlier added some hair products to Amy's hair. KG doesn't have the thinkest red hair but for the show they added volumizer to give her thicker looking hair. I think it looks great with stuff he used in her hair. Oh and the way to display this piece is without the jacket. It looks great without it.

I respect your point of view (even if I don't agree with much of it) and I appreciate your scepticism, which unlike cynicism, is always healthy.

Maybe as Who fans we feel slightly protective of a company which is promising us something many of us have always wanted - high end Who figures - and has already delivered one which fulfilled the expectations of many (if not all). I don't think I've ever been uncritical of BC, but I suppose that's always a danger when you feel strongly supportive of a company. So it's good to hear an alternative point of view like yours.

Where I disagree strongly is with the quote above... we live in a world where the default position of most companies, corporations, governments and individuals is to deny ever being at fault until they're forced to, so when I read a frank admission that things could have been done better it fills me with admiration - honesty and self-criticism are relatively unusual and should be applauded.

I'm going to return mine. I rather pay the return postage than keeping a figure that I don't like, even with the alternate head I don't want her anymore. Almost everything on that figure would need to be replaced, I don't think I should have to buy extra clothing for a figure which already cost €200. Buying an Amy head, a body and some clothing would actually be cheaper and most likely look much better too.

I think it won't increase any more in value than most other DW stuff of which people claimed 4 years ago it would be a 'very sought after' collectible in the future and now nobody wants it.

Hopefully they'll give me a refund without having to open a case with PayPal.

Looking forward to 10 and the next 11.

I feel almost weird saying this, but in a way I am more excited to get Hartnell than I am about Tom. :horror

No, I get it PT. To have feelings of excitement over a top marque 1:6 scale of Doctor #1 is not unusual at all to me. I am getting them too. Some might understand the direct, more mainstream appeal of the most recent Doctors as subjects, but the Hartnell figure is going to be truly for the fans.

In fact, this may be the first of the line of which I get two, one to open and one to preserve for future times. I just wonder what they could include to match the Signature Edition's autograph, seeing as that is sadly unavailable to us now.

I can totally understand this. I'm really excited about the Tom figure, but he's had more exposure and more merchandise over the years. There's something special and slightly unbelievable about getting a 12'' 1st Doctor figure. It's the same way I felt when CO/UT announced the 5'' versions of them or the 8th Doctor. I think the 8th Doctor will be the one I'll be the most amazed/excited about should it finally happen, though.

Unlikely figures are often weirdly exciting... and any figures of classic Doctor Who characters other than Tom are utterly unlikely.

The exclusive edition should come with a Hurndall Head limited to 250 - will really excite some, won't annoy those who fail to get it too much.

Could do a "Silver Screen" monochrome edition for the exclusive, like Sideshow used to do with the classic horror figures.

Great idea!

I don't normally go for the Black & White pieces. CO did those as SDCC exclusives and they didn't sell to well if I remember correctly.
