I hope they get ahead of this and make sure Sherlock is up for pre-order at least before series 3 airs. You never know what might happen - Series 3 might turn out to be weak and that would affect demand from fans who aren't hardcore fans. Demand now and in the run-up to Series 3 is when it'll be at its greatest ever, especilly when it starts shooting in March and the tabloids get photos of location filming.

I dreamt last night that I kept missing calls from Benedict Cumberbatch. It's a sign, I tell you! A SIGN! *waves hands and rolls eyes wildly*

Personally, I think you couldn't buy one without the other. I am in no way, shape or form a completionist, but I would have to buy a Watson if I were to buy a Holmes. It's an essential accessory.

I am happy to wait a little longer as I want to see how BC's quality holds up. I am not at all impressed with 10's tailoring and need to see if that side of things improves. They could do with getting someone else to do the paintwork, too.

And a side note. I was at MCM Expo in October and saw 11 on the Forbidden Planet stand. A friend told me that they were selling him there for £100 (still full price on their website). I can't confirm this, as I had no reason to ask (I already have an 11) but, if this is the case, I won't buy these as soon as they are released, but will wait and hound the Forbidden Planet stand every time I see it at a con. £100 is just about the price I am happy to pay for this quality figure, without kvetching endlessly about dribbly paintwork and buttons and braces falling off.

Kvetching - I use that word too!

Interesting that you mention the paintwork - do you mean on 10? It does look a little flat and doll like to me, but so did the 11 prototype so I'm assuming they'll fix this on the production version.

I'd buy any kind of Sherlock figure with a decent sculpt.

I am basing this on both 11 and 10. I wasn't pleased with the paintwork on the 11, and returned the head for a replacement, due to lots of drippy, grey wash all over his face. The replacement is better, but still not to the standard of a £150 figure, imo. The paintwork on the 10 prototype does look flat, but I would almost rather that than wash slapped indiscrimnatelly all over it. Either way, I am keen to see how this develops. If they are continuing to use the same manufacturer, I suspect that is what we will continue to get. I will then have to decide how desperate I am to get these when the time comes.

Finally watched the last ep...

I want this set more than the Dr's now :)

BCS won't be at the trade fair but they will have a presence at 'London Film and Comic Com' this year as I will have a BCS section ;)

I'm definitely down for Sherlock as long as the prototype looks good. I'd like to get John as well, but I think it will depend on price. I may pick him up later on in the aftermarket.

I picked up the Sherlock Casebook from Amazon.co.uk (wanted to get the Sherlock Cluedo but they wouldn't ship it to me in the US :( ) and it made me realize that if BCS could get this out in a reasonable amount of time, they could make a mint. Unlike Who, there just isn't a lot of merch associated with Sherlock yet. So I think people who might be more hesitant to buy a Who figure might jump on board with these.

They start filming in March for series 3 so that would be a great time to do the pre-order.

Really, really want this. In fact, I bet there's a few people like me who have sold off most of their collection or don't collect that much who mean to devote their collecting activity to Big Chief figures from now on. I've lost interest in what Hot Toys do, it just doesn't seem special any more, it all seems a bit lifeless and obvious. I'm looking for something quirkier.

A Sherlock banner is now popping up on the BCS website so I am hoping it won't be long until we get at least a teaser. And Sherlockology have been posting pictures of the set being constructed for the start of filming. Woo hoo!

Darn!
I just saw this thread for the 1st time and prematurely got excited thinking this was the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series from the 1980s.

Perhaps the definitive HOLMES. I have the boxed set and we have already been through it once, about a year ago.

Mr Brett sadly, was clearly not well to the end of the run...but we have this as his triumphant legacy. I think Benedict's version is the definitive version of any of the attempted updates, and I do like Jonny Lee Miller's Sherlock too.

Thanks for this info Mau. I really, really hope BC take a gamble on a Sherlock figure, if a crappy Sherlock branded Cluedo game could retail for £30 in Sainsbury's before Christmas I bet a high-end Sherlock figure would sell. I'll buy two for a start.

I think they have commited themselves now, what with the art prints and the banner. And given that 10 is selling so well, one would hope that some of their financial worries have been settled.

And, yes, I would imagine that there would be a relatively good market for this. The series might not have such a large fanbase as the Batman franchise, for example, but I think we are a pretty obsessive bunch and perhaps older (well, I know I am) so would be up for a well-made, high end figure.

Come on BCS! We want to see what you are up to!

I sewar, people who don't buy action figures will buy this. What they ought to do is make sure they get one to Caitlin Moran of the Times who is one of the biggest cheerleaders for the show in the British press, I could see it providing her with material for a column.

oh for SURE!!! sherlock fans out there are RABID!!! they'd love to have a little Cumberbatch in their houses... and once you see the SCULPT!!!! ohmygod!!!
