The following is for all of you that stayed awake for the big Black Friday announcements from Sideshow...

:rotfl

Sorry, I know, no need to rub salt in the wound. ;) :D

Frank!!!! :cuss :cuss :cuss

is that it? wasn't there suppose to be a reveal or something?

There is supposed to be a sneak peek on the way, but who knows what it will be or when it will be up. :huh I've already wasted enough time on this "event", to the point where I don't really care. :(

Very disappointing after a fantastic Spooktacular..........:monkey2

Didn't realise there was another announcement/sneak coming up. There is still hope. :lol

Well, I'm much more excited about JH's Sculpts and Bagend than anything Sideshow as on offer including Ringwraith Pf. The only thing that would get me to part with some £££'s is a Gandalf Pf, but thats my opinion.

:lecture That is exactly where I am at the moment mate. JH sculpts are ordered, as will Bag End be. And the only PFs I plan on getting are Gandalf and a Ringwraith :rock

Ringwraith sneak would be most excellent.. please SS, PLEASE!!! :banghead :lol

I thought the sneak peek product was the Black Pauldron Sandtrooper? Or did I miss anything?

I suppose that could be what they are calling a sneak peek, though it looks more like a preview to me.

Unfortunately, I dont think Weta has the resources [namely enough highly skilled sculptors] to concentrate on what is sure to be a highly demanding Hobbit licence, and LOTR at the same time. Not to mention a line of 3" mini-shields/lapel pins and a line of 6" characters [if and when that line ever gets off the ground] isn't exactly my idea of awe inspiring.

Do you mean they haven't got enough highly talented sculptors full stop, or to cover all their lines when the Hobbit gets going? because when that happens they'll just employ more people to also help with the film. I wouldn't say that they haven't got alot of highly skilled sculptors, that'd just be an insult. Their Kong and Narnia lines may not be extremely popular but the pieces are so finely made. I truly don't have any statues from any line in my collection that are better than Weta's, and i include the dioramas in that. I love my dioramas but when i compare their detail and quality to some of the Weta pieces there's no competition. All i have to do is use my two eyes ;)

I think Weta is fine for now, but I don't think they have enough good sculptors to produce their LOTR lines, the JH middle-earth line, plus Hobbit statues and busts once those lines are up and running. Esp. if they are pumping out Hobbit merchandise the way they were the SSW stuff. Highly skilled sculptors are not exactly " a dime a dozen" and since most of the world's highly skilled sculptors are already working for SS, where's Weta going to find the talent? ;)

Woodsy, let's clarify that your opinion regarding Weta (and their staff and talent) is not truth.

Well I'll just stick with the facts then, how does that sound? Weta , as a movie collectible company, is not nearly as big as they were during their LOTR run, and many of their sculptors were released years ago. Sooooo it stands to reason that if Weta wants to produce LOTR, JH, and Hobbit collectibles at the same time they are going to have to try to increase their stable of sculptors, either through aquiring new ones, or re-aquiring former sculptors. And since I'm sure some of those sculptors have moved on to new things, it may not be that easy for Weta to hire as many highly skilled sculptors as will be necessary, esp. with such a huge project like the Hobbit right around the corner. Now if you don't like my opinion, please feel free to dazzle us with your's. :bow

Sorry Woodsy, but I don't buy it.

Once the Hobbit is green light, Weta can start to fully staff back up for the movie (and keep those on for a bit longer to do the statues). Given the opportunity and a world wide source, I very much doubt that Weta would have any problem getting the skilled ppl that would be required.
Just think of a couple of the ppl that we know doing custom LOTR items (Arann!) which would jump at the chance and with the core skilled staff still at Weta, I don't think quality would be a problem.

Weta did all the original production for the massive LOTR line almost 10 years ago now, even if some of those ppl are now off busy doing other things, what makes you think that someone who was just starting out then and is now 10 years older wouldn't want to jump in or that some of the 'old' timers wouldn't come back. It is after all the Hobbit.....

I'm with guru 100%. No way people won't be scrambling to get on The Hobbit projects. Plus the JH pieces will likely number only 4 in total, 2 are done already so that isn't a huge commitment on their part. You are very hard on Weta, and well I guess I am very light on Weta.

I could probably think of a dozen sculptors on this and other forums that are just as skilled, if not more, than the ones at Sideshow. Dont get me wrong, Sideshow sculptors are awesome, but if you think "most of the world's" great sculptors are all taken up by the big companies, you're dead wrong.

Sculptors are very talented people, no doubt, but it's a silly notion to think there are only a few in the world. If there is a need and the pay is good, talented sculptors outside of sideshows staff can and will be found.

Yeah, Weta will have trouble hiring highly skilled sculptors
And you say i'm blinded with Weta? How about you with Sideshow? They have some good sculptors, but not 'most of the worlds' I can see what you mean though - how about those Galadriel and GTW PF's? And that twilight Witch King bust? That was better than Weta's wasn't it! And the cartoon Gandalf on the balrog diorama? Even the Gandalf on the treachery diorama is lacking in some detail. And the Sauron dio? And this is coming from someone who fell in love with the dioramas and was prepared to get them all.
You've talked some crap before Woodsy, but this is getting funny! ;)
