The most impressive thing to me is still that it got made and released at all.

Yes it is wonderfully mind-boggling. That a film so inaccessible to the majority of movie goers *had absolutely no corners cut whatsoever.* Literally nothing was compromised, not the budget, nor the run time, subject matter, rating. Nothing. We may never see another film like this again.

Yes in a perfect world it would have received noms for BP and Director (and won Production Design as well.) It absolutely should have won for Best Sound Mixing too IMO. The way those street level noises/sirens were blaring throughout I was never quite sure where the sound effects ended and the score began.

I'm actually fine with BR 2049 forever being a hidden gem that people can't just stumble upon by default when perusing "Best Picture" lists. Just like Ex Machina and The VVitch.

Something keeps holding me back from watching The Witch, it's on Amazon Prime, I can never get myself to watch it.

It's a decent film with some disturbing imagery. I think it went down better with critics than general audiences. I mean there's babies being killed and having their guts rubbed over bodies for **** sake.

Best character is Black Philip. :lecture

You gonna need subtitles to get through it though. :lol

The Oscars are still important, politics and all, mainly because they get under-the-radar actors more work and money. Sam Rockwell's been brilliant for 20 years and is only now going to begin receiving real money for stellar work because of his win.

Sam Rockwell is not a under-the-radar actor. :lol

He's in Iron Man 2 for ****s sake.

Plebz believe the Oscars mean anything, I bet you stood up to applause Get Out with the rest of the "auteurs" in your living room last night as well.

SNIKT I wish I could have seen your face when they played that clip from Logan and then announced Best Original Screenplay to James...Ivory.

I do think the theatrical release should have been shorter just to get its money back. The movie is perfect as it is.....
But it makes me sad that if they had cut the runtime a little bit then the movie could have been sucessful and we could have gotten another sequel

The witch is not foreign. But it is done in old english. I had to put subtitles to understand them.

But i think the movie was pretty amazing.
It doesnt rely on any jump scares.
Doesnt rely on shaky cam.
Doesnt rely on crappy acting.
Relies on slow dread and a lot of suspense and very realistic settings and acting.
There's no other movie like it. It is probably one of the best movies about witches.
It kinda feels like a documentary on old times and living in the woods and dealing with the darkness that lives in the forest.

Very atmospheric, extreme attention to detail. Has subtle but effective horror. Relies on good storytelling instead of cliches like the movie the ritual did.

This is everything the ritual and the blair witch sequel should have been.

It was a great experience of a movie.

Using the same actress has to mean something though.

Was joi just the genetic template for everything virtual?
