Not to derail this thread, but if recent history is any indicator, then it should be pretty obvious that many people DON'T fact check. Adapting some psychological concepts related to the acceptance of fake news: first, when our brains process information, belief comes quickly and naturally and skepticism is slow and unnatural. So, basically, analyzing and fact checking is hard and we're wired to not jump to those actions when presented with information. An example of this would be people continuing to be duped on April Fools Day. Plenty of April Fools stories on the Internet are completely bonkers and are supposed to be obvious jokes on a day known for jokes, but there are tons of people who still believe them and just don't get the joke. Similarly, saying that Molecule8 acquired Blitzway, on its face, seems at least plausible enough to not be a joke, thus the likelihood that that statement would be more readily accepted as true (consistent with our brains being wired to believe and with 'plausibility' not immediately setting off our BS detectors).
Secondly, this is a community and a community is like a tribe. We all belong to this group and when people are part of a group there is a tendency to implicitly trust members of that group (i.e., 'tribalism').
Third, there are a number of people on these forums who actually have insider access and information, so it's possible that 'breaking news' for the collecting community will happen here. Despite that, there is nothing on the forums to differentiate those insiders who have actual, factual information from the randos who have none or are just making jokes.
