Re: Bowen Real Bronze Spiderman / Hulk

The Hulk one BTW is exactly like the cover of an old tales to astonish issue and is one of my favorite sculpture ever.

Thanks Shai, and yes, I have been trying to get a hold of the hulk, mint in box. I missed out on the one in September on ebay, it was the price I was willing to pay for mint in box with no bust. But I did not have the funds then to make the move.

That is simply amazing. I didn't even think I would want another after the Grendel, but your photos make me want to add Spidey. I'm sure he was outrageously expensive. Mind if I ask how much? Also, where did you locate him? And what's the story behind getting your hands on him? Oh yeah, and one more thing. Did you get the minibust with this one?

Great looking Spidey! :D

Thanks Fury. Grendal is also an amazing piece from what I hear. If you have not posted pics, would love to see some if you get a chance to do so.

I bought it from Best Comics International, who gave me awesome service and was very quick in the service too. This arrived to me triple boxed, which Tommy, the owner, did on his own accord. Spidey was packed in original box, then this box in another with a couple of inches of styro chips, then this box in yet another with more chips. Really cannot say enough good things about the service I got from this store on this item. No, did not get the mini bust, that would have cost a lot more. I don't think I would be interested in it at this time.

There is no paint on these bronze pieces, so what you are seeing is most likely the natural pattern in the marble base. All of the color on the bronze is anodized to approximate the normal color being represented. That is if the Spidey and others are like my Grendel, and they have a true marble base, which I'm almost certain that they do. Or did you see another issue there?

This truly is a piece of art.

Thanks for explaining this Fury, and yes you are correct in everything you said. The second base on this Spidey is granite, so every piece will have a different base, they will be unique obviously because of the characteristics of the stone. In this granite piece, what you see in the pics are veins, no scratches or chips, unless you look at the bottom of the base, where the granite is not finished and this is normal for granite. The process through which the bronze is colored also makes this unique, and is why there can be such a variation from piece to piece. I am with you, it is a work of art.

unbeleivable statue!!!congrats man!!!!

Thanks ecekat!

DUDE, talk about a HIGH END piece.

this is a TRUE collectors item. The type of thing we'll see on antique road show 20 years from now.

Congratulations on pulling the trigger and picking up on of the most coveted superhero statues ever made.

Thanks Bezzerkerr!

Re: Bowen Real Bronze Spiderman / Hulk

That is really great to see the packaging box, because when my Grendel arrived last week, I was not quite sure if it was the original box or not. But it does have the exact same "fragile" stickers on it, and the exact same writing for the edition number on the edge of the top as well. It even has the same packing material. Well, I was considering just throwing the box and packing out and investing in better protection should I ever have to move the piece, but now I will hold onto it since it clearly belongs with the piece.

Mine was just as dirty and beat up too. The box that is. My marble base is a bit loose, and I was going to tighten it up, but may remove it to take to a show and have Wagner sign the base, without having to lug the whole statue around, and worry about it too. But I think all of my nuts are covered on my base. Will have to check again, and I'm thinking about refinishing the bottom as well with a whole new felt lining probably to cover the whole bottom.

Anyway, nice piece! :D

Furystorm, or anyone else who may know this;

Do you know the process used to get the gold look in the eyes on the head? I swear everytime I look at it, it looks like real gold!

Fury, don't throw the box away!!! It is the original, and I have the Batman one which is the same! Makes it all more authentic for sure.

Pics if you can, would love to see some of Grendal in hand pics.

Congrats on you piece too!

My self-indulgent thread dedicated to my Bronze Grendel:

Bad iPhone photos for now, but I'm sure I will have more later. And you can see that Grendel's neck is the same as your Spidey's eyes, I think. I'm pretty sure that just means it is the raw bronze, with no colorization.

I'm hoping you have not caused me to want this Spidey. But he looks so great. I searched all over your pictures and finally found the edition number on the base behind his right foot. I like the way they are engraved on these pieces.

Nice to have a bronze brother on the board, but to be honest, I cannot afford your side of things. I benefitted greatly from being more a fan of Grendel and also the bad economy which allowed me to find a motivated seller.

Ah my friend no need to be jealous, we can be proud of the fact it is Alberta and we both live in the same province Bronze Spidey does :lol

Thanks for commets Quadcent.

Thanks Wookie. I remember the version with the bust selling for about $16 000, but then the buyer did not pay. He resold it after on ebay for $12 000, I think, but this was a few years ago when the economy was hot.

Congrat. Greg. That is a true grail.

Thanks buddy!
