Super Freak
Poor Hank. Survives Tuco. Survives turtle bombs. Survives the twins, but his luck eventually ran out.
That is the part where it starts to fall down for Hank. However, we the viewer knows damn well he didn't take the money knowingly. We know he would never have took that money. We know it was Marie that really screwed him over there, yet we still character assassinate Hank. I think the guy is getting a raw deal is all I am saying. I don't think he did anything earth shatteringly bad.
Sure, he did some of his own investigatory work, which yes, would have blown the case, but he was working alone. He was constantly working on suspicion and without the support of the department. Hank was consistently coming up ideas, thinking outside of the box. I just think he is getting a raw deal imo.
Hank did alright in my book. I'd hardly say he "broke bad".
When he was going after Gustavo Fring, he hardly did it "by the book" and he was commended for his actions. He didn't have a warrant or anything with the tracking devices he'd put on cars. In those instances, ASAC Merkert and Gomie didn't seem to have a problem with how Hank approached his brilliant hunches and investigations.
The only thing that was nasty on Hank's part was having little to no regard for Jesse's life to catch Walt. He was willing to let Jesse die for that to happen, and in a way, almost seemed to want it to happen. That and breaking Jesse's face in was dirty, trying to catch Walt? I don't see the problem.
Was it about ego? Sure, but Hank is clearly a protagonist and a righteous and honorable man. By catching Walt, he knew his days at the DEA would have been done anyway by association alone. He straight up says this. He wanted to catch Walt with proof then get fired and help Marie, Skylar, Walt Jr. and Holly. Being vengeful towards Walt, someone that has betrayed his entire family, and not playing by the book his hardly unforgivable or disgraceful. Nobody in this show is perfect though.
What I don't get about people saying this (Jesse lives happily ever after with a bunch of meth money) is a) what leads you to believe that Jesse is just going to be able to get over not only the stuff that's happened previously but also now being partially responsible for Hank and Gomie's death, being tortured by one of the people he hates most in the world (Todd), plus having to cook with him under pain of punishment befalling Andrea and Brock, knowing Jane didn't have to die... Guy's already pretty much suffering PTSD and stuff just got worse for him, and b) the show has clearly established that Jesse does not want the money. He considers it blood money, so he's hardly going to feel awesome about taking ten mill and living large, knowing where the money came from. If Jesse survives, it won't be a happy ending. Kinda surprised anyone thinks this way, given Jesse's own complicity in many of the crimes. So prediction jessie gets away with everything in the end money in hand.
