They do it because the sport (women's hockey) is growing in these other nations and they have to have something for these new countries to play for (qualifying) even if they're horrifically outmatched. If they didn't have the qualifying for these new teams then the sport won't be able to grow in other countries and it'll just be Can vs. the US for the next couple of Olympics until they cancel the sport due to too few countries taking part.

I'm no hockey fan by any means, but damn. They must have been the worst goalie of all time. Even if you are just sitting there immovable, you've got to think that a person can stop some of those!

My mother said the same thing years ago, in the past Olympics. It's true, to grow and develop the program, you have to play against the best and be beaten by them to assess what needs to be worked on. They are definitely a good decade or two away from being even a fringe team. Just as long as they develop their programs and its players properly.

Holy shheet!, i wonder if this Dale Smith is the same dude that was partners with a guy's father i met a few years back at my rich scummy ex's place.Apparently this guy i met, his son had a online business partnership with a skier from Aussie but, did not go over the details and was not really bragging actually, my ex's parents were boasting more about it then he was, around the table, since this mans son was around 22-23 at the time and had just made a few million through this business he had started with this skier that.Last i heard, his business folded/bankrupt and that guy's father i met ends up dying the next year of cancer.I thought of it as karma, since her father insulted me about money and joked about how it was time for me to hit the road since this rich guys son had all this money and was young.
