Got mine today, and have to say I'm very impressed.

The bubble was not damaged and the paint did not have any rubs from the visor. However the buckle on his belt was damaged... so I sent a email to Steve to see about replacing the belt.

But overall the figure seems really great. I haven't been able to get real heavy into posing and playing with him, but so far seems like a great basebody and the outfit seems top-notch :rock

I'll snap some pics later on tonight after I get back home from work.

Are you sure the buckle was damaged? On mine the buckle was loose in the box, but it was wasn't broken, it clips on the metal ends to the belt easily. I did break the belt later by pulling too hard on the metal end and ripping it off the belt though.

i'm actually kinda surprised at the positive reviews. but maybe this is because there aren't a lot of the normal complainers (like myself )picking this up. At $175 I would be pretty disappointed with the rubber materials and the apparent looseness/oversize of the boots. Plus the head and paint look super generic and unremarkable.

There are some really cool features like the metal and glass components and obviously the Atom Body, but I'm surprised some of the other stuff is getting a pass.

To me the overall figure looks like an old school Joe or Action Man, but doesn't really compare to the current upscale standards I'd expect for $175.

Well, the head is mostly hidden anyway - and the "generic" look kind of fits the property. Some items are of rubber, but they are extremely high quality and look like the leather they are supposed to be. I'd prefer SSC to use this kind of treatement instead of trying to make things out of actual leather. I think the slightly oversized boots are an aesthetic choice, again, it fits the character.

The ATOM body is well proproportioned, well articulated and has the MP3 function.

What Dave said, plus, when comparing it to say Medicom Rocketeer, the clothes are on par, plus it has a light up rocket pack and removable helmet. Add the wooden packaging and it's easy to see why. I can see Prog's point though, the head is unremarkable, and there is room for improvements. I would expect to see them down the road, as Go Hero moves along.

I agree with you here Dave, I think that actual leather (while nice in theory) really wouldn't have had the same effect as the rubber. With rubber molded "leather" you can add more texture and have more patterns to it. Real leather would also have had to of been REALLY thin to work look correct and would probably have been more fragile than the rubber. I also don't mind the size of the boots as they are offset by the big bubble helmet. When Buck is all geared up he looks proportional.

As for the sculpt on Buck, having it generic fits with the comic book aesthetic they were going for. As you can see with the Flash Gordon prototype, Go Hero can hit it outta the park when they are allowed to...

From what it looks like the buckle has two slots on either side that the belt loops into. The right side was dangling and fell off when I picked him up... and you could clearly see a break, most likely as they had to make it pretty thin to get it into scale.

I got a reply back from Steve and he was more than willing to send me a replacement :duff

So got Buck out at again and started playing around with him... honestly the more I posed him the more I like the figure. I was able to do a temporary repair to the belt (superglued the buckle back together) but as the belt is about 1/4" too short it won't be long until it rebreaks.

But the figure is all around top-notch. Still haven't figured out the MP3 player... but just fiddling around with poses and different accessories you get a nice feel for the quality. Articulation is great and w/o the heavy pack and bubble he holds poses very well... I could see this body becoming very popular with customizers.

The leatherlike rubber sections are very well done and allow a good look w/o sacrificing too much articulation. The metal gun and helmet are very nice once you figure out how to work the visor. And the outfit looks good and fits well.

The head is somewhat generic, but I think that was intended as this is just "Buck Rogers" and not a particular actor portraying him. But the sculpt still looks appropriate and I think the paint work is as good as, if not better than most Sideshow figures. No doll dot, so that's at least something.

Here are some pics of mine:

And yes, he does have socks... the boots actually slip off very easily. The shoulders also pop out as part of the design, but for the life of me I wasn't able to get the vest off for a full nudie shot.

And now you know what Ming's face would look like after Buck stomped his ass :lol

Nice pics GB! Mine is still with customs. Since May 28th! Guess they must like the figure so much that they decided to play with it for a week (or longer!).
And Dave, if you are still struggling with the rocket pack flames, I think there should be a way to make the flames come out of the rocket pack. Most of the pictures on the SSC product page are without the flames. It's no guarantee, but that would make one think they are suppose to come out. Don't blame me if you snap them though!

Anyone else think the sculpt bears a passing resemblance to Q from Star Trek: the Next Generation?

Maybe they're trying to work out how to word a letter to you explaining how they broke your bubble helmet and have the audacity to charge you for the privilege.

I hope that's not the case and yours comes to you in perfect nick. Good luck AA. I hope they release it to you shortly.

My guess is what is breaking the helmets is not the package being crushed (as the boxes seem to be arriving in good order) but bucks helmet (with metal bits) bumping around inside of the bubble while in transit. Its unfortunate, that if his head had just been wrapped in bubble a lot of the trouble would have been averted.

That would definitely have helped, though it doesn't look like mine would have happened like that. Mine is a hole right in front of the face. The head wouldn't have moved that far forward. As the head is not loose I doubt it was the head, and it sits rather securely in between the plastic trays. My guess would just be the shock of it being plunked down in transit at each step of the voyage. That could easily be 20 times or more. It may have been the mould because the glass is thin in some areas and thick in others. sisquiri's broke at the back, and others sound like they were completely shattered.

Ah, I was thinking maybe even the visor (being metal) could have done that... but you are probably right.

After I took pictures last night I put the inner helmet on Buck and the bubble over top and really like how that looked. But I got a bit nervous about the straps not being able to take the strain as I had his body pitched forward... didn't want to wake up to find my bubble helmet on the ground in pieces.

Oh, and I did rebreak my belt buckle... :lol

Mine broke at the back, a relatively small area that shattered into many MANY pieces.
Still loving the figure, even without the helmet, and looking forward to more from
GoHero.

I found the belt to be rather tight fitting in any case, maybe araldite might be stronger but on such a small area, maybe not. Getting one of those light up stands is going to be a must for this figure. One shelf dive is going to likely result in a devastating blow, and getting a replacement is only going to get harder, if not impossible.

The belt on mine seemed about 1/4" too short. Unless the pants were up high you could not get it to buckle.
