Part of that is due to the way this forum makes money. It's a completely different animal to Dave's Sideshow Freaks, because it
only exists to make money, and
only exists because it
can make money.
Rather than extracting money from members to allow them to sell, as Dave did, they extract it from businesses instead. That creates a whole different dynamic, because all businesses have to pay for the privilege to talk to customers and potential customers.
That applies to
all representatives of businesses. It was handy that some of them had quite anonymous sounding usernames, and happened to slip under the radar.
Asmus is a weird one. The rules under the forum's new ownership blocked them from advertising and communicating. They said they had so much to say but weren't allowed to say it, and eventually became a sponsor so they
could say it. Once they were legally able to post, they decided
not to.
He had a hissy fit and announced his departure, because the forum membership wouldn't stroke his ego and show him absolute positivity.
The forum also didn't offer him a free platform to advertise and communicate unless he became a sponsor. Since he hates this place sponsorship would be unlikely. With all his sock accounts banned he had no voice, so retreated to the echo chamber of his Facebook page. I read he sends an employee in every Monday to screencap all the negativity.
