Yep, was thinking about adding the tattoos and some battle scars etc. But I have another of these wrestler bodies, and plan to use that to make another war paint-Conan.
But first I wanted to see how the regular version would work out for me, since this is my very first custom and I have never done anything like this before

Looking great so far! The outfit is really coming along and the body looks a lot better with some clothing... looks less toyish.

Mate for a first time custom this figure is coming along nicely. I have been following this thread and I like the way you are showing it coming along stage by stage. I tried to do this with my 300 Leonidas and I am sure that other board members appreciate you showing this figure in its many stages of customization.

The figure itself looks amazing. I have a few of these bodies laying around as well and often wonder what to make with them. Your custom now shows what can be achieved with this body. Considering that this body was made to be wrestled with by kids you are turning it into a work of art with this Conan.

I look very forward to seeing the direction that this figure is taking and if so far is anything to go by, this custom will be awesome.

well done :)

Thanks for the kind words, guys! I haven't been able to much, but I plan to get some work done tomorrow...

It's been a loooong time since I last saw the Conan The Barbarian-movie, but I did again yesterday and I noticed that the outfit I'm making for him doesn't even appear in the film? WTF? :monkey1

Could it be from the crappy sequel then? Or from a regular promo photo or something?

I just took this picture as a guide since that seemed to be how I remembered Coman.
Hmm, strange..

Anyway, I think every regular people see Conan like he is in your photo, furry underwear, crown, jewelry, armbrace, boots and a big sword.

Got a little work done: made his necklace and added some spikes to his right arm gauntlet.

I'm now working on his belt (scabbard, dagger, belt buckle..).

looks great LV. did you ever figure out the head/hair situation?

Some more work done; redid the necklace, and finished the scabbard and dagger and tried on a belt to see how it looks. Not sure if this belt is going to be the final design though...

(the buckle in the picture of just the belt was not the design I went for, but I added it to show someWIP on the dagger, scabbard etc)

dude that is sick looking..................what did you do for the dagger? sculpy? the only thing i would suggest if you could would to try to make the necklace a lil' thicker..........but that might be hard to thread the bones thru huh? on another note for the complexion of the body........i was thinking instead of painting to make darker im gonna try staining........which i think the rubber would take but not sure of the harder plastic pieces. i guess a few experiments are in order but on diff figs because im thinking stain is a one shot deal.
again......your figure is rockin man....:rock:rock:rock

By Crom !!

This figure is coming together really really well :rock

I had a feeling when this figure started that it would turn out to be something special. It is turning out special and much more.

People can tell that you are very passionate about this figure by the attention to detail that you are putting into this figure.

To say that I am extremely jealous is an understatement, and I look forward to seeing more work in progress pics. :)

cheers

Thanks man!
The dagger and 'leather' scabbard were sculpted with Apoxie Clay (as was the necklace pendant and teeth, the right gauntlet and sword scabbard).

The string of the necklace should indeed be a bit thicker, but I couldn't find anything else around the house I liked :D But the difference is not that big, so I'll probably leave it for now.

And about the complexion, I know, Conan looks more tanned in most shots but this body doesn't really take (my)
paint all that well. But I'm looking for other paints that might work better.

Now I'll have to wait for his hair to arrive so I can finish his head and make the head band...

Wow thanks buddy! Ive always been a fan of your work too and you've got a lot of figures that I wish I had :monkey5

To be honest, I'm actually not entirely pleased with him. I have this test when I have a new figure to see whether I really like it or not: I leave it standing on the table and the next morning I'll go look at it with 'fresh eyes' and if I keep staring at it and like what I see, it's approved :D
But I'm not entirely satisfied with my Conan, especially the belt buckle. But I'm going to leave it as it is and wait 'till the head and sword are in place as well, and then I'll do The Test again

But since I have another one of these wrestler bodies, I was thinking of doing another Conan: war-paint Conan. He shouldn't be that hard compared to this one I think.

Mate, what you said about leaving him on the table and approaching the next day with a fresh eye is so much like what I did with my "300 Leonidas" it is scary. :)

During the various stages of making him and some of my other customs I would leave them sitting on my coffee table and look at them last thing before leaving for work.... then all day at work would be spent thinking of what I saw before I left home :lol

I won't mention the cape. I spent 3 Saturdays in a row at a local fabric/curtain store walking around touching/feeling the many different rolls of material. It got to the point where I think the female staff behind the counter were going to call security :rotfl

Keep up the good work :rock

Got the wig yesterday; it wasn't perfect and a bit too big, but I think I can make something out of it.

Here are some first test shots of the head with hair (no headband yet):

(He looks a bit like an 80's rockstar maybe :D)
