It's easy to be happy with the dirty droids when you have no chance at getting the exclusive :lol

You know, I was kind of thinking the same thing. Didn't want to say anything because it doesn't seem like anyone on here shares the sentiment. I think, if the situation was flipped, most people would be legitimizing getting the clean droids over the dirty. IMO the dirty droids should have been the exclusive.

I feel like the clean droids will be a shining trophy in my collection. The separate bases are nice as well because I intend on displaying them on either side of a picture I have, with both droids on it, signed by Baker and Daniels.

Good point! The clean droids would make more sense because that's how most people know them. I think that most people would say the same thing when the exclusive would have been the dirty ones. But as I said earlier the dirty ones are, from my point of view, a lot more interesting :D

3PO would be like a small oscar statue and with R2 and him flanking your signed picture it would be one awesome display (and maybe even center) piece in you collection. Don't forget to post pictures when they are in :hi5:

If the dirty version was the ex and I missed it I would have been royally peeved. I would have bought the clean, but I would have always looked at them with regret.

Not to mention it's easier to "weather" the clean droids than "clean" the dirty ones. Anyone with some basic painting skills could dirty 'em up if desired.

Right, because lots of people are going to break out their paints for their $700 statues. Realistic weathering is not something you can just slap on.

How's that? The weathered look is their iconic look.

Can't blame people for looking on the bright side! :)

Nah, I really follow a lot of the opinions floating around here.

I am in that same camp right now though. I found it much easier to be satisfied with a nice discount on the regular version knowing the price for the exclusive is going to be almost double on ebay. Maybe my wait list will convert and I will get a chance to decide which set I want to keep but it's not looking great right now.

:goodpost: I said the same thing many pages back.
I think they should have the weathered droids as the EX.

It sounds like many people on this thread have said that they prefer the Weathered version and that it should have been the Exclusive set.

Perhaps SS realized that many/most would prefer the Weathered look and that's why they DIDN'T make them the Exclusive and instead made the shiny versions the Exclusive with a low edition size. If more people truly do prefer the "iconic" weathered versions, perhaps it's good they are more available to a variety of collectors. Can you imagine the outrage if it were flipped and the masses couldn't get the weathered look?

Just a theory, but seems to make some sense if that preference truly is the majority.

I always figured that because it's so hard to get that 'electro-plating' perfect, they had to keep it the 'EXCLUSIVE'. Ultimately they're ALL starting out as un-weathered...then those that have slight flaws and imperfections will become the weathered versions. The couple hundred that make it through as near-'electro-plated' perfection become the EX versions. :monkey3

^^:exactly:^^
Will definitely share pics when I get them.

I will post pics when I get my conversion :) the sooner the better.

Sorry to say this cbc, but I think many may agree with me when I say that we aren't going to hold our breath.:impatient:

This whole release really was an odd situation. In the midst of all the recent open ES or Limited ES, or unstated ES for months on end we get this piece that sold out in, what, a few days with a 200 ES? I suspect the theory about paint replicability may be more true than you might first think.

they could probably only get 200 to survive the chroming process
