I always figured that because it's so hard to get that 'electro-plating' perfect, they had to keep it the 'EXCLUSIVE'. Ultimately they're ALL starting out as un-weathered...then those that have slight flaws and imperfections will become the weathered versions. The couple hundred that make it through as near-'electro-plated' perfection become the EX versions. :monkey3

Just like the lifesize endoskeleton and skulls :exactly::goodpost:

This is the reason Why I had ordered the ex set....I can always myself weather them

I just learned that the high-polish finish or "clean" look of the C-3PO bust has been cancelled by SSC because they were unable to reproduce that finish:

I wonder how that's going to translate over to the EX version of this PF. After all, it's the same finish. Right?

The bit I don't get... why can Medicom and Kotobukiya make their 1/6 3PO's "perfectly" shiny (both huge production runs) and Sideshow can't?

Personally, I think they 'can' do it. After all, what was the proto painted with?

Maybe there wasn't enough pre-sale orders to justify moving forward on the 3PO 1:1 bust. Couple that with the tremendous amount of pieces they yet have to produce and have been postponing... something had to go. :(

Furthermore, if they say they can't produce the paint on the 1:1 bust, what will they use to paint 3PO on the EX of this PF?

Their excuse is just that... an excuse.

With the new year right around the corner, I have to say it is a good feeling knowing these are finally going to be displayed in the months to come, after waiting for several years.

excellent point.

was the full life size statue "clean" or weathered?

wow, with all the technology we have today is it still this difficult, also why cant they just make it polystone and paint it with a shiny coat of glossy bronze, or do the fans not want that? I personally dont care as long as it looks good.

I'm worried for those of you that have bought these from a second hand party. If the chroming is an issue then there wont be any replacements from second hand dealers.

Better cross the fingers the QC is perfect

I doubt there will be any replacements for the ex from sideshow anyway. Now i finally understood why they limited the ex to such a low es, it's not to spite the fans or some marketing poly to generate buzz, it's the practical matter of not able to produce the yield % for the ex. I bet they going to set the es # for the reg after successfully made the ex es, then all those that didnt make the cut will be reg with whatever es that happen to be.

all those who ordered ex, this will be like a lottery, if you get a bad one you screwed :thud:

It's not as if its impossible to do that finish. The question is whether it can be done cheaply enough for Sideshow to make a profit. If they have to scrap most of the busts that come out of the chroming process because they had flaws (or if they had to deal with a lot of complaints from customers) it wouldn't make financial sense to go ahead with the clean version. And maybe they only had a few preorders to begin with so they decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

Again gents, Medicom and Kotobukiya 1/6 3PO's. Both mass produced. Both finishes look amazing in hand (and far better than what Sideshow used on the 1/4 Ark as an example).

This whole topic baffles me as to why it's so hard for Sideshow. Hell, even Hasbro's 1/6 Ark looked a million times better than the "painted" gold finish of the Sideshow one. With that in mind, it mustn't be a price issue?

Um, my point was precisely that it's NOT impossible to do. So we agree. But I do think there's more involved in chroming a life size polystone bust than a small 1/6 scale figure, so they may not be entirely comparable.

:goodpost: Seems to make sense to me.

The Don Post full size was beautiful and that's over 10 years old.

True. That's why I think it's not a matter of what is technically possible so much as what Sideshow's particular factory is capable of.

Agreed.

Hey Cruise, just checked out your website; very cool!

Fury is the definitive R2 fan, and you sir, are clearly the Jabba aficionado... holy cow, what a collection!
