Can/Will SSC Finally Ditch These Inferior Art S Buck Bodies?

the TRIAD toys body :D
what about those.

even the DRAGON DML bodies are nice, light and sturdy.

And reissuing a figure body would not alter the retail price as much as we think it would.
the have probably redone the molds for the figure parts nUMEROUS times.
It costs in the 10k-100k area just to make metal molds . i gave a really vague unumber cause I'm not exatly sure but I know its in the 5 digits at least.
If sell 5000 figures for $60, that's....300k....

they would have to hire sculptors to redo the articulation, design, etc, and start a new "figure body version", and that would cost a lot but economically, it could bring in more customers who hate the ugly exposed joints or that tall scale sideshow uses (or so I heard, 12"=6 foot)

but my 2 cents

It seems the Triad bodies are very limited in articulation, so I wouldn't want them used for clothed figures.

It's funny, but the design team at SSC are all hardcore military buffs and the body was designed to do all the things that the other 1/6 scale bodies on the market couldn't do, such as aim a rifle properly. They have a wider range of motion than a lot of the bodies out there too.

I don't think they're perfect, but they are far better than Dragon's and no one can argue with the articulation.

And I really don't see how the HT body improved Han. It's simply posed a little better and some of the other pics. Poses that the SSC body can easily emulate.

THat would be fine with me but I'm not gonna start paying $75-80 for these figures.

The fact that Bib Fortuna was priced at $59.99 leads me to believe we're headed toward higher costs for the 1/6 SW figures regardless. And, heck, we're already pushing it by paying $50-60+ for these figures. I'd much rather them have more modern 1/6 base bodies and if that means an additional $5 per figure so be it.

However, we don't really know what SSC is paying to use the Art S Buck figures do we? It's possible they can switch to superior base bodies without a notable rise in costs on their end.

In any case, the point stands: The Art S Buck figures need to go. At least for this license. Because they are simply not up to snuff.

I fully support the development of a new SS body. I think the current one is good, but could be so much better!!!

Come on, Dave. Are you telling us that you can't see how much better proportioned Han looks using the HT base body instead of the standard Art S Buck? As Sachiel stated (and the pics speak for themselves): it even makes the head sculpt look better!

As for the Art Buck figures, the articulation has never been too much of an issue for me. And I would agree that overall it's probably better than the Dragon bodies. But that's not really saying much these days.

The bottom line is this: Hot Toys, Medicom and others have raised the bar in 1/6 bodies in the high-end collectible figure market and SSC has fallen behind. They need to change now or the proportion problems people have with Han will only be the tip of the iceberg as the other companies continue to try and improve the 1/6 base figures (which are SO important).

And for $50 to $60 per figure we shouldn't have to spend an additional $26 to make figures like Han look as good as it does in those pics using the HT body. They should look that solid out of the box.

the HT body is more proportioned than SSC's. no long forearms, the midsection is alot better as well. Overall just fills out the clothes in the right places better than SSC's

I concur. Its not that I hate the Art S Buck bodies, but there are better bodies out there and I wish SS would use them. I myself am looking at getting an extra Han and then getting the new Hot Toys body.

I will have to wait until I have Han in hand before making the leap and doing a body swap. In some pics he looks good and others not so much...but improvement is always good. A better proportioned body would definitely be great!

Well, I think it will vary depending on the amount of detail that is needed for each figure. Bib had a lot as did Leia so I expect those to be more. If it's only an additional $5 if the bodies "would" be better then I'm all for it.

SSC should make a deal with Hot Toys to use their body. :monkey5 Doubt it though. They'd have to change the wrists. And other factors.

it's very easy. just heat the head up with a hair dryer or boiling water and it will pop off. then just stick it on the hot toys neck post. a little superglue in a few spots will keep it on, but also enable you to remove it if you wish.

OK, sounds easy, I'm thinking about doing this to a few SW guys now, but I don't wanna ruin them. It really makes a difference on Han. I actually just ordered on from DarkShadows just for this custom. I think it would really make it better, but I don't wanna ruin it. I think we need a picture tutorial for those of us who are custom virgins. The pics of Hans hand holes in the Han thread helped alot!

It would be worth it. Because a better base body would allow all of SSC's hard work (sculpts, clothing, etc) to be showcased the way they should be.

Bottom line, the Art Buck bodies are holding these figures back.

Don't Hot Toys figures keep the same general price, even though they upgrade their bodies every year?

So what's the cheapest anyone's finding on this HT body?

Yeah, I saw them for $26 and that seems like a lot to add onto the cost of the figs all ready (at least for me.)

OOooo.Yeah I think I'll see how Han looks in person, I do prefer the HT pics, but for $26 bucks....I don't know if it's worth it, I'd rather fuss a little longer for free. But those HT pics are superior.

The heads on Luke, Ani, Kit, seem perfectly sized. Han so far is only figure to look a bit off in pictures, that's why I will wait until I have him in hand before judging him. As far a posing goes, I have posed the figures I have in quite a many different action, and non-action pose and they look great and hold there pose just fine. So articulation wise the bodies are great and they look right in there proportions, except for Luke's long forearms. Han is the only one so far that seems a little off in pictures, but once again I will reserve judgment until I actually have him or see one in person...
