I'm going old school tonight, with a look at the new Captain Action basic figure set from Round 2. I'll be covering the first two costume sets later this week as well - check out the review at the usual:

Thanks for reading!

Great review, this looks worth the buy to me!!! The body looks pretty good and love the price point.

By the way where did you get yours, as this is still a pre-order everywhere. Did they send you an early sample to review or do you have a special source?

OK, I see it's an early review, still not out yet. Not crazy about the new body. Was hoping it would be a good replacement for bashes. I think if they hadn't made his shoulder so broad the sleeves won't be so short. Will have to try the uniform sets on another body and see how they look.

Wow, I really hate this figure. They've taken what was great about the original Captain Action and completely walked away from it IMO. CA had an extremely realiatic headsculpt, much more so than the 60's GI Joe, and this just looks like a cartoon to me, even if the eyes have better paint apps. CA was my first 1/6 scale figure (Christmas 1966,) and this is a huge disappointment.

Mixed feelings here.On the 1 hand, CA was my first action figure, and definitely my favorite(who cares about soldiers,he can be SUPERMAN!).On the other hand, he looked like George Bush(sr.). Of course, the new sculpt looks like a Gerry Anderson character, so I'm not sure it's an improvement...PS

First, good review, but the original Cap never had velcro on the uniforms for closures. He always used 3 little snaps.

Second, the updated sculpt is patterned after the old add and model art so it retains the vintage feel. No, its not exactly like the origianl, but that wasn't working for Playing Mantis in the 90's either. its good to see Cap back in action. I do wish the sleeves were a bit longer and he, himself, a bit taller.
The final judgment will be once he is "in hand".

There was velcro someplace - I remember snagging that damn costume repeatedly. Must have been on some other outfit or toy...

I had the original figure and that Boat/Car vehicle as a kid and loved it!

:exactly: In trying to make more muscular they made him more wider then taller. That nude body seems off. Definitely going to try a body switch. Hopefully can be done.

No velcro, the material just snagged easy. As adults we're more carefully with figures like Chris Reeve Superman and still many have snags. Can you imagine how a young boy handles his toys. Snags just from his accessories even.

I definitely remember velcro too, and snagging it. Even as a tiny child I hated the original CA headsculpt - he looked sad and/or drugged out. The new head is a good update.

But I won't be getting this - if HT, Sideshow, Enterbay, et al didn't exist - maybe. But in the current market it's not for me. Perhaps the same people who are responding to the BifBamPow Mego updates will be buying.

There is no velcro on any Ideal Captain Action costume or accessory from the 1960's. I will have to check the Playing Mantis product, but I don't remember any being used there either.

As someone with a complete loose collection of CA, both 60's and 90's iterations, I will be collecting this new line but hope the folks at Round 2 address what I see as glaring problems with the new product. Setting themselves apart from the vintage stuff is admirable, but this direction seems poorly thought out.
The new headsculpt is neither good nor is it an "update." The original CA headsculpt and the proportions of the figure were extraordinarily realistic for their time, and any updating for modern toy collectors should have continued that trajectory, not veered into Spongebob territory.

I had high hopes for this rendition of CA, but think I would rather just buy the outfits and use them on other bodies as the come with full mask anyways. May just buy one CA to leave mint.

I just hope this version doesn't get bogged down with tons of delays like the Playing Mantis line did. They've already delayed this from a 2011 Fall release and we're still waiting now. I also believe the price points are a mistake. $35.00 for a costume set alone is too much. It's over packaged to try and make seem like its more than what it is. It's just an outfit with a few plastic/rubber accessories. They should have packaged them like the vintage lines. Now that would have been cool.
