Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

so, I really wanted to drive up to Hollywood yesterday for the premiere but it's over a two hour drive each way. I was going to go in my ud replica Captain America costume. A friend of mine went dressed as the Winter Soldier and his friend dressed as Black Widow. They were pulled from the crowd because of their costumes and put in a different area where they have better access to the stars. Then they were invited inside to actually see the movie! Yep I made a bad decision.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Was lucky enough to score tickets to the advanced screening in San Diego this coming Thursday 3/20. Can't wait. I'm going to go in my Cap costume, and my 7 year old as WS. Plan to leave the assault rifle at home though. ;) They not popular at theaters these days.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I absolutely think Cap will be better than The Avengers because, even now, I don't think The Avengers is Marvel's best movie. I think it gets a lot of slack because it's the first film with a variety of heroes in it, but I don't think it even touches the first Iron Man. Plus, I thought Thor: The Dark World was better, as well.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Avengers is the best MCU for me, the action and humor were top notch.

It had:

IM vs Thor
Thor vs Hulk
Shield vs Hulk
BW vs Hulk
BW vs Hawkeye
Fury vs Loki
Coulson vs Loki
Cap vs Loki
Cap vs Thor
Banner vs Shield
Shield vs Shield
Avengers vs Loki
Avengers vs Chitauri

yup, the best one so far. :lol

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Nothing with Kat Dennings in it beats the Avengers.
WS will be a close second to the Avengers.
Very excited for this movie.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Correction: Nothing without all of Kat Dennings.

Scarjo probably put out a restraining order on those things.

So, basically; the key to making the greatest movie ever is a formula of "fight scene, joke, fight scene, joke, fight scene, joke, fight scene, joke, rousing speech from old Yiddish dude, fight scene, more jokes, fight scene, yet another joke, fight scene, joke, Coulson dies (LOLZ JK! We're giving the dead Mcguffin his own TV Show!), aaaaaaand, wait for it, yet another fight scene, but, wait, act within the last 5 minutes and you'll get an additional joke! Look! It's superheroes eating Arabic food in a little restaurant (this joke is a callback to an earlier joke!)! And they're still wearing their costumes! Isn't that funny?"

Maybe it's just me, but I was never overly impressed with The Avengers. Was it a fun movie? Absolutely. Was it an entertaining flick? I enjoyed it! Was it the greatest thing in the history of mankind? Nope. The way I see people gush over it; I don't know. I just think it's overrated. I think it succeeded because of circumstance, and, while I'm not saying it wouldn't have been successful otherwise, I think people tend to give it, perhaps, too fair of a shake because of the circumstances it came out under. For one thing, it was the first time we'd seen anything like it. We've seen Superhero movie after Superhero movie, but never a team of superheroes (that were generally known for working alone, that is). For another, I think The Dark Knight had a lot to do with it. People have five years of Batman and emo stalker Superman, and suddenly, everybody loves that a Superhero movie finally knows how to have fun! That being said, that hadn't always been the case. I question whether everyone would be saying "It shows that Superhero movies can be fun and lighthearted" as some sort of reasoning for why it's good, had it came out around the time of, say, Raimi's Spider-Man movies.

I probably should stop before you track my IP address and crucify me in the center of time square, but I don't know; I'm not saying it's not good. I did like it, but I just don't think it set a very high bar is all. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Age of Ultron is the "Empire Strikes Back" of the series, because I don't think it has to do much to top the first one.

She looks abnormally hot there. Not to say she isn't always hot, but there's something about that pic. Maybe it's the hair over the eyes thing.:lol

Wow, look at you cracking the formula to a mega hit multiple million dollar movie.
Not all witty banter and fight scenes are created equal.
If they were everyone including you would be rolling in dough and superstardom.
The last I heard Batfan and Joss Wheddon weren't being mentioned in the same breadth.
Why did we buy comics as kids?
For bigger than life sluggfests and huge set pieces inhabited by amazing characters that we wanted to be
and good story was a bonus.
Avengers the movie delivered exactly what the best Avengers issues had.

This is all that matters. :lol

Hey, those were Jye's words, not mine (or maybe they were).:lol I just think that it says something about the film when Jye's reasoning for why he loves it comes down to "humor" followed by a list of fight scenes. I know it probably sounds like blasphemy mentioning them in the same breath, but, if someone wanted to say Michael Bay's Transformers movies were the greatest things ever, they could literally use Jye's post and substitute the names of the characters in the fight scenes. Naturally, if that's all it takes to mesmerize most folks, I'm not surprised The Avengers made a billion dollars. With that being said, I've openly acknowledged that I did enjoy The Avengers and found it to be extremely entertaining (that Michael Bay comparison *** actually hurt me more than it hurt you), as I said, though, I just think that it owes a lot of it's success to the "wow" factor, and I think that, over time, the dust is going to settle and the shine will be, at the very least, tarnished (E.g. When Age of Ultron comes out). I think it's still on its pedestal because, as of now, it's the only movie like it, and people are still very quick to defend it, as evidenced here.

I'm not saying it's not a good movie, I'm just saying it's not their best movie. Or, maybe, it is, and I'm just missing something. I don't know. In May of 2012, I was there at midnight. I loved the solo movies, I became a part of the hype, and I was genuinely excited for it, but, when I was there in the theater, I was only "there" in the theater. It's like something didn't click with me. Some of the jokes were funny, a lot of them were overkill, the action scenes were awesome, but, at the end of the day, I came out feeling more like I watched an exercise in spectacle than a solid film, or, rather, a film as solid as some of Marvel's other work. I'm not going to pretend I'm Rowdy Roddy Piper in "They Live!" and that everybody else is blind to the truth, because I'm not that egotistical, and I probably am missing something that everyone else picked up on. I'm just saying, when it all comes down to it, for me, it won't be difficult for The Winter Soldier or Age of Ultron, or any of their future films, for that matter, to top it, because, in my mind, it's already been topped.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Fair enough bf, Whedon himself admits its half a bad movie.

But like Spartan said, it was my comic books come to life, finally.

It was colorful, action packed, well acted and produced, and ultimately fun, as in IM vs Thor and Hulk smashing Loki awesome!

Does it really need more than that to be excellent?

Not fo me! :lol

I do believe Cap 2 will be as good if not better.
