Just got back from seeing this about an hour ago. This was actually a solid movie that could have risen to Winter Soldier level if not for one thing - the marketing. Knowing beforehand that Ross turns into Red Hulk completely undermines the climax of the movie. Whoever decided that information needed to be in all the trailers and plastered on all the posters should be fired immediately. :slap What should have been an epic, surprise 3rd act reveal instead plays like an overdue inevitability. As soon as Ross pops his first heart pill early in the film I'm like, "well, now I know how Sterns is dosing him with gamma radiation". I still enjoyed my viewing (I thought both Mackie and Ford brought their A games), but I can't help feeling that a potentially GREAT time at the movies was stolen from me.

Ah. If ESB posters and trailers revealed the "I am your father" business.

So the internal leaks break down production problems:

1. Red Hulk was originally supposed to be a 100% anti Trump fascist character but Disney panicked and turned down the anti Trump rhetoric in the reshoots because they didn’t want to lose conservative customers.
2. Ford was so miserable during motion capture that he was angry all the time, it took triple the effort to keep him comfortable.
3. Focus on villains was all over the place.
4. Feige didn’t want this movie, he was behind Thunderbolts and F4 but not enthusiastic about this.

Other than blaming Ford for wanting, what, more craft service, what exactly are the 'production problems' above?

1 and 3 are story problems, and 4 sounds like Disney protecting Feige. We'll know when Thunderbolts and FF are released.

And that was bad for mo-capping the Hulk? Oh yeah, he's not supposed to be mad he's supposed to be a big sissy.

Ford was supposedly a diva lol

a lot of different people are saying that from behind the scenes.
and he sucks in the movie,he's. nothing like the character he's supposed to play. he's not good. he's just going by the motions.

I'm certain he is, but you have to know that going in. Was it really a surprise? And what does "triple the effort" mean to keep him happy? His short shoot time didn't sink this production.
Well…

Either the test audiences were so smart Marvel failed with the reshoots at meeting their high quality suggestions…

Or

Test audiences were so dumb Marvel ruined their movie by listening to their suggestions by adding endless expositions and an uncooked villain.

Honestly you’re the first I read that Ford sucked, most are saying he was great even from those that disliked the movie.

it's gonna sound weird but when he's on screen then the movie just becomes "air force one" and takes me out of it. it might just be my own bias or that most people don't remember or didn't watch air force one.
I didn't want a sequel to air force one.
and like I said he feels nothing like the character played by William hurt. it's just grumpy Harrison Ford.

the second that falcon got that captain shield he needed to give up the wings....is that simple.

it really is that simple.
you can't both be falcon and Captain America. I don't care how the comics did it.

you can't be both. it looks cool and everything but you cannot be both. you just can't

I don't care if he changed his name. you keep the wings, you're still falcon.
you're still falcon .

why do I say this, because no one accepts Mackie as captain America. and it has nothing to do with the actor. it has nothing to do with bucky. nothing .
it's those stupid wings.

it's like if Hawkeye became the new iron Man but never gave up his bow and arrow. you just can't do that. it doesn't work that way.

you keep your wings, you're falcon. period.
he will never be captain with the wings.

Yeah I know the secret was already out long ago, but still it's crazy to me how much they seem to have spoiled from the Red Hulk fight already. And it's just sad seeing how desperate they are to get some positive buzz for this thing.

I just can’t get myself to go watch this….ME! (I didn’t go see The Marvels either thank god that was atrocious).

Nothing to do with Mackie saying dumb stuff and boy was it dumb.

Nothing to do with reshoots.

Nothing to do with the Disney Entertainment Initiative (read that again lol)

Nothing to do with 108 year Ford still acting.

Nothing to do with General Ross losing the stash.

Nothing to do with Cap having wings.

For me, being Cap means they need 2 things.

1. A good person who is honored to be called the name Captain America, not ashamed of it.

2. Is super powered by the serum.

Without either you’re simply NOT Captain America.

This new Cap should’ve been dead after just ONE punch from Red Hulk or better yet have his hand instantly crushed when he catches his shield.

Some Cap lol

Nah bro.

So now i’m screwed because this lame version of Cap is their Cap going forward. :gah:

You know if Chadwick didn’t die he was going to lead or at least form the Avengers just like this Cap is doing.

It was going to be a black actor no matter what.

That’s fine I don’t care about that but make the character MAKE SENSE!

Hell i’ll take Blade leading the Avengers now lol

the movie cheats because his suit is from wakanda so he's basically got a "super serum" suit like if it was Black panther where if he gets hit it absorbed the power of the hit.

so he does things like if he has the serum anyway

I think the MCU began to lose me around the time we began to see ubiquitous 'nanotech' -- i.e. magic -- from Iron Man's suits to all of Wakanda and onwards.

The stories are fantasy and demand total suspension of disbelief, but there is a line they crossed for me. It made everything too easy and allowed the writers to become lazy, the characters less relatable.

I guess it's a quantity thing. I can accept Cap's shield ("...that thing does not obey the laws of physics!") and allow Dr. Strange's powers, but Nano-Everything and Consequence-Free Suits cross over fully into Saturday morning cartoon territory for me. Arbitrary as it seems.

To each their own, regarding how you feel about Sam Wilson's Cap, but let's remember that in the comics, the Super Soldier serum only takes Steve Rogers to "peak human", which has been described as an Olympic-level gymnast. Yes, the movies changed that, but the shield was never meant to be something only a someone with super-strength could wield.
Secondly, can we stop treating Mackie like he said something controversial? He didn't. Cap's always represented American ideals, not America the country. And it's not like Chris Evans hasn't said the same thing:

“This isn't a flag waving movie,” Evans told Comic Book Resources while promoting Captain America: The First Avenger back in 2011. “I've said before in interviews, it feels more like he should just be called Captain Good.”

But no one got their knickers in a twist over that.

So, if you don't like the movie, fine. There are plenty of critiques to be made of the thing. I'm sure I'll have a few once i see it. But maybe we can stop raking the Black man over the coals for saying the same thing the white man did. It's not a good look.
