The Winter Soldier Reportedly Will Be 'Central' To CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

In an article posted today at Badass Digest, it is mentioned in passing that Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier character will be a "central character" in Captain America: Civil War. "Sources close to production tell me that not only is the Winter Soldier involved in Civil War, he's a central character in it," it states. The article is mostly focused on the potential role of Daniel Bruhl's villain in the film, but speculates that Bruhl's character could be tied to the origin of the Winter Soldier.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo had previously suggested that the Winter Soldier would play a key role in the third Captain America film, noting that they viewed Captain America 2 and 3 as a two parter. In April, the Russos told SlashFilm: "The next movie would seem to require a continuation of the journey of the Winter Soldier ... Both on Cap's part and the Winter Soldier part." However, those comments were made months ago, earlier in the film's development stage and before details of Captain America: Civil War emerged.

As more of the cast have been confirmed for the film in recent weeks, including Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther, there was some question among fans whether plans had changed, especially since there has been no official word on Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier yet and reports on RDJ's contract suggested he pushed for a bigger role than was originally intended. However, this new report suggests the Winter Soldier will still be heavily involved in the third Cap film. What role do you think the Winter Soldier will play in Civil War?

Marvel Tried (And Failed) To Get Spider-Man In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

And you thought the Iron Man appearance was a big deal.

The ongoing Sony hack saga has taken a turn that will interest the geeks of the world, as emails reveal that Marvel Studios tried to get Spider-Man to appear in Captain America: Civil War. In the comics Spidey is a huge part of the story, beginning on Iron Man's side and unmasking himself on television before finally joining Captain America's anti-registration rebellion. Fans hoped and prayed that recent rumors about Marvel trying to get a Spidey crossover was about Civil War, so they should be happy to see that Marvel gave it a shot... and failed.

That isn't all the hacks reveal about Spider-Man. Doug Belgrad, Sony Pictures president, pitched a new Spider-Man trilogy to be produced by Marvel but distributed by Sony, a compromise that would have made fans happy as well, especially in the wake of the dismal Amazing Spider-Man 2. That plan also fell through.

What is Sony doing with Spider-Man? The Wall Street Journal says that there's a comedic Spider-Man cartoon on the table with Phil Lord and Chris Miller at the helm - that's awesome. Everything else will wait until January, which is when Sony executives will have a summit to discuss the future of their struggling (and sole) franchise.

My thoughts: this only bolsters the image of Marvel as a forward-thinking, fan-friendly studio and only reinforces the image of Sony as a studio unable to figure out what to do with this property. They had the answer right in their face and blew it. We almost lived in a world where Andrew Garfield, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr duked it out for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sony should lease Spidey to Dis-Marvel on a per movie basis, every major financial group from Forbes to Fool has been harping on this for years. They reap cash for doing zero work and they get FREE advertising for their characters. If Spidey ( hopefully still Garfield) did this massive crossover, Uwe Boll could direct Spidey 3 and It would still probably be a billion dollar flick. Don't believe it? Look at the IM3 coattails fiasco. :lol
