Got to hand it to Marvel for trying. Though an even better deal would be to figure out how to get Evans, Downey, and JACKMAN to share the screen.

At least Marvel had a basis for the proposal, Sony has been friendly with Dis-Marvel by terminating contracts early and amending their original Marvel contracts... Fox otoh... you'll never see Jackman with them.

If Spidey ( hopefully still Garfield) did this massive crossover, Uwe Boll could direct Spidey 3 and It would still probably be a billion dollar flick. Don't believe it? Look at the IM3 coattails fiasco.

Yep, Sony could have reaped the benefits of instant credibility for their film universe and as you say ASM3 would get to coast by as an unofficial sequel to Civil War. Idiots.

Maybe when they 'meet' to discuss the animated flick, someone with half a brain will speak up.

Imagine this, if Sony is going to start an animated big screen Spidey universe ( which I love the idea), they could use this as leverage as well. Sony could ask for animated movie rights to some characters they don't have access to. ****, ****, ****. Man they could make this work, they just need to get serious about some details th a t would work for both companies.

I don't think they were talking about ASM 3, though. I thought it said " an all new trilogy." What I chalked that up to is "this will be Spider-Man by Marvel Studios, but with Sony's name on it." I want to see more stuff like the '66 Batman Blu-Ray. Two giant corporations, in the name of making a bunch of money, get together and cooperate, and, lo and behold, magic happens.

As bad as it sounds, I'd actually love it if Sony ended up selling Spidey back to Marvel to help with the hacking debacle. God knows how much this has cost them or what it will end up costing them after everything is said and done.

As it is Sony as a whole is a hurting company.

This....... So much of this. Spiderman like it or not belongs in the mcu all the characters do. The universe is great but it feels broken without xmen, spidey and fantastic four. But fanatic four will possible go back to marvel soon cuz that new movie is just wow XD

Marvel Tried (And Failed) To Get Spider-Man In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

And you thought the Iron Man appearance was a big deal.


The ongoing Sony hack saga has taken a turn that will interest the geeks of the world, as emails reveal that Marvel Studios tried to get Spider-Man to appear in Captain America: Civil War. In the comics Spidey is a huge part of the story, beginning on Iron Man's side and unmasking himself on television before finally joining Captain America's anti-registration rebellion. Fans hoped and prayed that recent rumors about Marvel trying to get a Spidey crossover was about Civil War, so they should be happy to see that Marvel gave it a shot... and failed.

That isn't all the hacks reveal about Spider-Man. Doug Belgrad, Sony Pictures president, pitched a new Spider-Man trilogy to be produced by Marvel but distributed by Sony, a compromise that would have made fans happy as well, especially in the wake of the dismal Amazing Spider-Man 2. That plan also fell through.

What is Sony doing with Spider-Man? The Wall Street Journal says that there's a comedic Spider-Man cartoon on the table with Phil Lord and Chris Miller at the helm - that's awesome. Everything else will wait until January, which is when Sony executives will have a summit to discuss the future of their struggling (and sole) franchise.

My thoughts: this only bolsters the image of Marvel as a forward-thinking, fan-friendly studio and only reinforces the image of Sony as a studio unable to figure out what to do with this property. They had the answer right in their face and blew it. We almost lived in a world where Andrew Garfield, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr duked it out for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Am I the only one that wants to see a different actor play Spidey? I thought Maguire did a pretty decent job, but not a fan at all with Garfield's performance. He took what is Spidey's snarky attitude and turned it into an annoying emo douche.

Thats a shame, but on the other hand... I hate Andrew Garfield, and I'd hate to see that guy next to my favourite heroes. Its intresting to see Marvel tried...
