Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

It's the newest TV spot to date and the one, I'm 99% certain, that Meanstreak was asking about. :nana:

I am sure he was asking about the new trailer I posted the description for since there was no talk in between my post and his of any TV trailers. :nana:

You posted a description of the trailer...I posted the actual trailer. :nana:

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I'd say he was probably asking for the actual trailer which was shown this weekend at Hero Complex.

It's being attached to Transformers DOTM (Paramount y'see) however there is a possibility that it could get released online before then.

Once it's released online, you'll know the second trailer is online.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Looks like this movie could be better than GL now... (based on GL reviews)

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Marvel will Always beat and be better than DC

Captain America looks Fantastic! Loving Caps sheild work

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Pretty much. But overall, Marvel has the better flicks.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Nah, Marvel's just had more flicks. You're bound to have some good ones if you make enough. DC's had what, Batman, Superman, Watchmen, and now Green Lantern? Compaired the the dozens Marvel has had?

Warning whole lot of rambling and unscientific numbers nonsense ahead:

Sounds true, but I still hit the Wikipedias to check on this. According to these articles:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_Marvel_Comics
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_DC_Comics

Total movies -
Marvel: 29
DC: 22 (not counting Green Lantern because I haven't seen it yet)

Decent flicks (imo, your mileage may vary) -
Marvel: 17
DC: 10

Movies I rate extremely high (imo, your mileage may vary) -
Marvel: 5
DC: 8

Then there are the classics: Superman, Batman 1989, TDK... I'm not sure I put any Marvel movies in that category. Maybe Spider-Man 2.

I would throw The Incredible Hulk into the Marvel pool, I thought it was well done, I don't know how good Blade holds up really...

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Marvel has better and stronger characters

This is bull____. Marvel has always prided themselves on the humanity aspect. Many writers, hell even Stan Lee has said that Marvel deals with people while DC deals with Gods. The thing is that DC is constantly trying to water down their character banks because they feel they need to be more accessible.

An alien from Krypton with superhuman powers including manipulation of some elements like fire and ice? A man who has a ring that literally changes anything thought of in the mind into reality? A man who is so fast that he can travel through time? An alien from Mars who can shift into anything he desires including mental psychic abilities? A princess molded by the Gods herself who can stand toe to toe with anything on this planet. A man who has no powers yet has enough smarts and resolve to stand toe to toe with them?

and that is just the bigger ticket, yet DC handicaps them by instead of telling larger than life epics, they try to Marvelize them. Even Nolan's films which are good suffer from the fact that he is so shortsighted that he refuses to even acknowledge other heroes within his universe taking out one of the most dynamic abilities that Batman has which is to be an ordinary human who can look at God in the face or a superpowered villain and defeat them with only his brain and some gadgets of his own design.

Marvel isn't better or stronger by any means. DC/WB is just lazy and unoriginal. Instead of blazing their own path by making huge blockbuster films that really highlight the character's skills and traits they are taking plays from the Marvel handbook that don't apply to their characters at all. Wonder Woman shouldn't be CEO of a company with issues around her body styling but a goddess kicking ass and taking names. Green Lantern shouldn't be handicapped to Earth but in Space where he could really shine. It isn't budget either keeping these things back especially with a $300 Million pricetag on GL, it's unoriginality of the people behind these projects. A movie shouldn't be "It's_____ meets ______" it should be something that is so breathtakingly awesome it inspires comparisons instead of uses them.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I do feel like during the last 10 years DC Comics have taken hit in the movie department and with the exception of Nolan's Batman series, I feel like with a lot of their properties they lack the confidence in their characters to just let them shine on their own. I think this has become especially more apparent with the advent of Marvel Studios. Warner Brothers is lacking the guts to just lay it out there and have people except it or not for what it is.
When I saw Thor, I watched the Jotunheim sequence and was amazed when Thor flew through the monsters mouth and out through the back of its head. I thought, "They aren't screwing around and they aren't worried whether the audience could handle it." This was the Thor I knew and they weren't embarrassed or ashamed about it.
I think the audience can tell when a director, a screenwriter and the actors are not behind it fully or have the courage to just lay it out there.
I'm convinced Warner Brothers would have had a Wonder Woman movie out by now if they would have accepted the character for what she is and just ran with it. There was no way anyone could deliver a script WB felt comfortable with. The same goes for the Superman franchise. They just over thought it.
I'm really looking forward to Captain America, because so far it does look like a film that could be a labor of love for the film makers involved and it does look like and it will be as close to the spirit of the character I've read about for years as I'm going to hope to see in a movie.
